Deepavali (Diwali) is the celebration of the triumph of light, signifying good, over darkness or evil. Deepavali is celebrated on the Amavasya day of Aswayuja Masam as a festival of lights through the worship of Sri Mahalakshmi, the Goddess of material and spiritual wealth. Legends relate this festival to the victory of Lord Krishna over demon king Narakasura and also to the return of Lord Sri Rama to Ayodhya after killing Ravana.
