Today in HistoryWhat is the process for conducting historical inquiry?
By Dawn BartzBy Da
The Steps in the Process
• Research• Analyzing Evidence• Making an Interpretation• Peer Review
Research
• How can you create investigative questions to focus your research?
• What types of primary and secondary sources would be most helpful?
Analyzing Evidence
• What are “literal” aspects of the document or source? (What does it say?)
• What is the point of view (perspective) of the source?
• How did historical circumstances shape the source? (What was going on during this era?)
Making an interpretation
• How do different pieces of evidence or information compare to each other?
Peer Review
• Is my explanation convincing?• Does my explanation have support from
several pieces of evidence?• Is my explanation clearly written or
demonstrated in my final product?
How do these steps apply to your historical inquiry?
How does this relate to your research process using the PERSIA + GT model?
