Prayer for Respect of Life

Heavenly Father, the beauty and dignity of human

life was the crowning of your creation. You further

ennobled that life when your Son became one with

us in his incarnation. Help us to realize the

sacredness of human life and to respect it from

the moment of conception until the last moment at

death. Give us courage to speak with truth and

love and with conviction in defence of life. Help us

to extend the gentle hand of mercy and

forgiveness to those who do not reverence your gift

of life. To all, grant pardon for the times we have

failed to be grateful for your precious gift of life or

to respect it in others. We ask this in Jesus' Name.

Amen.

Our Lord sometimes makes you feel the weight of the cross. This weight seems unbearable but you carry it because in His love and mercy, the Lord helps you and gives you strength. —St Padre Pio

IRA Required Minimum Distributions Donation Opportunity

There is good news if you have reached age 70 ½ and you would like to help (your parish, school, ministry). If you have an IRA, the government requires you to take out a certain amount each year and be subject to federal tax. However, the law allows you to donate this amount directly to (your parish, school, ministry) during 2018 and have it distributed free of federal income tax! What a wonderful opportunity for those 70 ½ to help (parish, school, ministry). Please contact the person that handles your retirement plan or your tax advisor.

Missionary Disciples: Stewards of the Gospel

Pope Francis is urging Catholics across the globe to make a radical shift in their outlook on life and become “Missionary Disciples.” The pontiff maintains that only by making this radical turn toward an “evangelizing” way of life can we truly experience the joy and peace of Christ Jesus.

We are receiving a “wake up” call from the Holy Father, reminding us of the urgent need to reach out and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Good stewards are natural evangelizers and understand the need to share their faith with others. In their pastoral letter on stewardship, the United States bishops wrote:

Every member of the Church is called to evangelize, and the practice of authentic Christian stewardship inevitably leads to evangelization. As stewards of the mysteries of God (cf. 1 Cor. 4:1), people desire to tell others about them and about the light they shed on human life, to share the graces and gifts they have received from God, especially knowledge of Christ Jesus.

How do Catholics answer that call? First, as Catholic Christians we need to be mindful of the renewal of our own Baptismal promises at Easter and educate ourselves in our faith. Good stewards understand the need for ongoing formation and catechesis in their every-deepening relationship with Christ. Secondly, we must never forget the witness value of our own lives. Through our everyday actions, lived in Christ, we give the world the clearest sign of God’s presence among us and within the Church. Third, inspired by the Holy Spirit, we must proclaim the Good News in words. Fourth, we must be willing to dialogue in a spirit of love and respect. We must listen with tolerance to others’ disbelief, doubts, pain and suffering. Our sharing of the Gospel should not be demanding or coercive. The sole desire of authentic evangelizers is to bestow freely with patience and love what they themselves have freely received.
