Kiaora Koutou Katoa, greetings everyone,

We are being very spoilt by this beautiful autumn weather. Our district is looking stunning at the moment with all the fantastic autumn colours. I never ceased to be amazed by how beautiful our physical environment is, we certainly are lucky here at Sherwood School to call this place ‘home’.

Our school is humming as we continue to strive to ensure that our students have an extensive range of quality learning experiences and opportunities. Although our numbers have dropped slightly this term the projected roll is in fact, very healthy.

We welcome visits from any new families who may be looking at schooling options.

CHB College Visit Our Year 7s had a visit to CHB College this week to experience first-hand what the College has to offer. Their feedback was extremely positive, they were buzz-ing afterwards. Thanks go to Lance and other staff at the College for making this visit possible.

Targa Rally Marshalling

Thanks to the people who have offered to help marshal the Ashley Clinton stage of the Targa Rally on Sunday 20th May. We still need 10 more helpers, the time frame is -1.00pm to 5.00pm (or earlier if the stage has finished) please phone Michelle in the office if you can help. This is a fundraising event for the school.

Pink Shirt Day

We will be supporting Pink Shirt Day on Friday 18th May. Students are asked to wear something pink and to bring a gold coin donation. Pink Shirt Day encourages students to ‘Speak Up and Stand Together to Stop Bullying’. Sherwood School has a zero tolerance for bullying and we are proud to support Pink Shirt Day.

Music Concert I am really looking forward to welcom-ing you (one and all) to our, ‘evening filled with music’ here at school next Tuesday (15th May) at 6.30pm. All of the students learning music and/or singing with Gine with be presenting. Please come along even if your children are not presenting, we’d love to see you. Music students are asked to bring a plate of nibbles to share afterwards. Thanks.

A”Deane’s Visit Our visit to A’Deane’s Bush that was planned for this Thursday has been postponed until Monday 14th May as Michelle and I will be attending an ALL [Accelerated Literacy Learning] meeting in Napier .

This week’s quote - The aim of education is the knowledge, not of facts, but of values. William S. Burroughs

Have a great week everyone

SWIMMING SPORTS BEEP! I fly off the block and across the water. I slip into the pool and the cool water rushes over me like a river. My arms are glued into streamline and my feet wave up and down at the wall behind me. I am the mermaid of the pool. My body raises and I near the surface. My head pushes out of the water and a gasp for a breath of air. My arms go round and round like a propeller on a plane, though not as fast. I glance at my sister beside me an I think, I can’t let Emma beat me in the two lengths freestyle. I look up and I see the wall getting closer. When I get close enough I tuck my head in and bend my knees. I do a forward roll and push off the wall. I power through the water, my feet leaving a trail of froth behind me… I reach out for the wall and I feel the rough surface on my finger-tips. I stand up on the slippery, smooth tiles and raise my goggles. I gaze around me and I see my parents cheering. All the other girls are finishing. A lady hands me a red card, I flip it over and a wave of excitement washes over me. I got first place. I pull myself out of the pool and rush over to Mrs Goodman and hand her my card as I grin ear-to-ear. “Well Done Alice” says Mrs Goodman. I feel so happy. I could do a little happy dance right there and then.Alice Baker [11]
