One Mans Opinion

Part ISometimes there are people in the public eye that you just feellike you know. When you see them on television its like seeing

a favorite relative or an old friend. Muhammad Ali was one ofthose people. For people of my generation he was the voice ofthe people. He voiced how we as Black Men, Should be char-acterizing ourselves. You felt, awe and sometimes fear of re-taliation for Ali and possibly for anyone who supported him. Remember this was the 60s. Inthe Midst of the Civil Rights Movement. At a time when Black people were still being beatenin the streets and desegregation was making slow inroads. No Coloreds Allowed or WhitesOnly was still a sign of the times in a lot of places and yet, here is a Black Man shouting I

Am the Greatest It was incomprehensible to a teenage Black Boy in South Carolina namedRon. Maybe, just Maybe, I can grow up and proclaim and claim my Greatness. Maybe, just

maybe, I can grow up and become a success in America, Not Just in the Black Community,but in the America that doesnt see color. We arent there yet, but because of MuhammadAli, Im sure there are thousands if not millions of young Black Girls and Boys who walked alittle faster, stood a little taller and worked a little harder to Claim their Greatness.

Part IIIts been another Raindiculous few days here is Savannah. Its to the point, I dont evenleave the house during these monsoons. Yet, there are still people who continue to expoundthat climate change is voodoo science and that mankind has not affected the environment.What is it going to take? The rising of the oceans to reclaim miles and miles of coastline and

cities. Will it take Long Island to become flooded or surrounded by dykes because its belowsea level? Mankind needs to get serious about protecting the environment, because, NewsFlash, this is the only planet we have so far. Now if you want humanity to be around longenough to find another planet to live on AND figure out how to get there, then wed bettertake care of this one while we can.
