• North Sumatera takes 71,680 km2. It takes almost 3.7% of total area in Indonesia.
• In North Sumatra, there are 4 mountains (Sibayak, Sinabung, Pangulubao, and Sibuatan)and 1 lake, called Lake Toba.
• Lake Toba was formed from a huge volcano eruption happened 74,000 years ago.
• One of the mountains, Sinabung, is an active volcano.
• North Sumatra is very popular with its coffee. It exported the coffee to all over the world. There are two main coffee from North Sumatra: Sumatra Mandheling and Sumatra Lintong.
• Volcano is a place on the Earth’s surface that opens over a pool of molten rock.
• When it erupts actively, it releases ash, gas, and magma violently and spectacularly.
• Before erupting, hot liquid rock under the Earth’s surface is called magma. After the eruption, the magma will change into lava as it is coming out from the surface.
• The soil near volcano is considered to produce well and fertile. Therefore, many people live nearby the volcano and make a living by farming. People in Sinabung, for example, produce a lot of good quality coffee.

• It destroys human settlements, lives, and property.
• Ash may give negative consequence to the Earth’s layer
• Landscape and natural environment get damaged
• When ash and mud mix with rain, they will form lahars.
• The ash gives bad impact to humans health parHcularly their respiratory system
• However, some parHcular erupHons may give a wonderful view post erupHon. It will aKract tourists and helps people around the area rebuild their lives.
• Soil in volcanic area will become rich in nutrients because the ash and lava breakdown aMer the erupHon.
• During ashfall, protect yourself by: - wearing mask - staying inside a house, with doors and windows
closed - wearing goggles, glasses for your eye protection - wearing a disposable particulate respiratory in
case you need to go out for cleaning up - keeping your vehicles switch off
• Relocate the residents to safe zone temporarily • Donate trucks and other supplementary that help
to rebuild the infrastructure • Socialize and educate the residents about the risk
of living nearby the active volcano • Send the professionals to help rebuilding the area • Donate fertilizer so the residents can farm again
