Page 1: Hy Dr Release Jdc Pulling Tool

Applications■ Retrieval of wireline tool strings■ Retrieval of CT tools with JDC

profiles■ Vertical, deviated, and horizontal

wells■ Sweet and sour service (H2S)■ Heavy-duty retrieval operations

Benefits and features■ Safety release feature allows flow-

initiated release of retrieval tool.■ No setdown weight or jarring

required for release.■ Release flow rate can be field

adjusted by changing the nozzleorifice.

■ Release feature enables repeatedattempts without redressing.

■ Simple, reliable operation■ Rugged design for use in high-

impact and jarring operations.

The JDC profile is the most commonexternal fishing profile used on mostwireline tools and some smaller CTtools.

The JDC pulling tool provides astrong, reliable method of latching toand retrieving downhole toolsdesigned with external fishing necks, such as Otis, Camco, and Baker flowcontrol equipment, wireline tools, etc.The bore through the hydraulicrelease JDC tool allows circulationwhile running over the fish neck towash away debris that may have accu-mulated around it. The hydraulic

release mechanism eliminates theneed to shear pins and allows forrepeated engagement and disengage-ment with the fish. Skirt, or barrel, diameters and reaches are availablein the same sizes as the equivalentwireline tools.

Prior to running into the well, thecorrect core has to be installed andverified, and the appropriate circula-tion orifice has to be selected to prop-erly adjust the release rate. Thesettings should be verified with arelease test. With the JDC pulling toolmade up, the tool string is run todepth just above the fish. Whileapproaching the fish, circulationshould be established to remove sandor debris that may prevent latchingthe fishing neck. To latch, gently setdown on the fish until a reduction inweight is observed. Circulation isstopped, and time provided to allowthe bottomhole conditions to stabi-lize. Taking a moderate upstrain onthe coiled tubing confirms a success-ful latch. When the fish is latched, continued pickup retrieves the fish.Upward jarring may be used for diffi-cult or stuck fish.

Should it become necessary torelease from a stuck fish, slightsetdown weight is applied, and circu-lation started to release the engagingdogs. While slowly maintaining circu-lation, latching is confirmed, and thetool is pulled out of the retrieval pro-file. After coming off the fish, thepulling tool is immediately ready foranother latch.
