die datum van publikasie hiervan, dat -
die ekwivalente van die eenhede wat i n die eerste kolom van
die Bylae van hierdie Kennisgewing vermeld word, die ekwivalente
i s wat teenoor hulle in die tweede kolom van gemelde Bylae staan;
h ekwivalent wat afgelei k m word van die ekwivalente i n para=
graaf ( a ) bedoel, ook h ekwivalent van die betrokke eenhede i s ;
en
by die omrekening van gegewens slegs sodanige aantal syfers van die
toepaslike ekwivalent gebruik hoef t e word as wat nodig ie om die
omgerekende waarde met h noukeurigheid wat ooreenstem met die

Standards Act, 1973 ( ~ c t 76 of 1973), I hereby determine, with e f f ec t
from the date of publication hereof, t ha t -
( a ) the equivalents of the un i t s mentioned i n the f i r s t column
of the Schedule t o t h i s Notice a r e the equivalents appearing
opposite them i n the second column of the s a id Schedule;
(b) any equivalent which can be derived from the equivalents re fe r red
t o in paragraph (a) i s a l so an equivalent of the un i t s concerned;
and
( c ) in the conversion of data, only such number of d i g i t s of the
applicable equivalent need be used as are necessary f o r reproducing
the converted value t o an accuracy corresponding t o the accuracy
of the o r ig ina l data.

Die SI-eenhede bestaan uit -
(a) die basiseenhede;
(b) die aanvullende eenhede; en
(c) die afgeleide eenhede,
wat gesamentlik die samehangende stelsel van SI-eenhede uitmaak.
Daarbenewens bevat die S1 die desimale veelvoude en subveelvoude van die SI-eenhede wat gevom word deur gebruik te maak van die SI-voor= voegsels.
Die SI-basiseenhede, hul simbole en die groothede waarvan die grootte in hierdie basiseenhede uitgedrulc word, word in Tabel 1 van hierdie Bylae uiteengesit en omsluyf.

1. TBE S1 UNITS AND THEIR DECIMAL MULTIPLES AND SUBMITLTIPLJ3S
(1) The S1 un i t s consis t of - ( a ) the base un i t s ;
(b) the supplementary un i t s ; a n d
( c ) the derived un i t s ,
which together form the coherent system of S1 un i t s .
In addi t ion the S1 contains the decimal multiples and submultiples of S1 un i t s formed by using the S1 prefixes.
(2) The S1 base un i t s , t h e i r symbols, and the quan t i t i e s whose mag- n i t u d e ~ a r e expressed ii terms of these base un i t s , a r e s e t out and defined in Table 1 of t h i s Schedule.
(3) The S1 supplementary u n i t s , t h e i r symbols,and the quan t i t i e s whose magnitudes a r e expressed i n terms of these supplementary un i t s , a r e s e t out and defined in Table 2 of t h i s Schedule.

(f) The base unit of amount of substance: The mole is the amount of substance of a ayatem which contains as many elementary entities as there are atoms in 0,012 kilogram of carbon 12.
(g) The base unit of luminous intensity: The candela is the luminous intensity, in the perpendicular direction, of a surface of 1/600 000 square metre of a black body at the temperature of freezing platinum under a pressure of 101 325 pascals.

VERDUIDELIKENI@ OPMERKINGS BY DIE TWEEDE BYLAE
1. Die CGPM (conf6rence Gne'rale des Poids e t ~ e s u r e s ) is die internasionale ou to r i t e i t op d ie SI.
2. Met die uitsondering van een eenheid in Tabel 1 word d i e ander eenhede daarin so algemeen gebruik dat d i t deur die CGPM erken word as eenhede wat v i r algemene gebruik saam met die S1 behou word. Die eenheid "gon" i n Tabel 1 word n ie deur die CGPM i n hierdie kategorie ingedeel n ie maar word algemeen in metrieke lande erken. Die naam "grade" word v i r h ierdie eenheid in Frankryk gebruik.
3. Op h soortgelyke wyse (kyk 2 hierbo) i e d i t nodig om sommige ander eenhede bui te die S1 t e erken w a t veral n u t t i g op gespesialiseerde gebiede in wetenskaplike na= vorsing gebruik word omdat die waardes daarvan, uitgedruk in SI-eenhede, ekspe = rimenteel bepaal moet word en dus n ie noukeurig bekend i s nie. Eenhede wat in hierdie kategorie erken word, word i n Tabel 2 aangegee.
4. Die eenhede in Tabelle 3 en 4 word deur die CGPM as tydelike eenhede beskou. Die eenhede "text' en "dioptrie" word n i e onder die opskrif van Tabel 3 deur die CGPM erken n ie maar geniet wetlike erkenning in baie lande. Sommige een= hede w a t onder h ie rd ie opskrif deur d ie CGPM aangegee word, word i n Tabel 5 aangegee omdat daar a l reeds ak t ie f aan die ui tskakel ing daarvan i n die Republiek gewerk word. Aangesien die eenhede i n Tabelle 3 en 4 s legs tydelik van aard i s , behoort d ie ooreenstemmende SI-eenhede ve rk i e s l i k gebruik t e word.
5. Elektronvolt: 1 eV = 160,219 X J by benadering.
6. Atoommassa-eenheid (verenig): 1 U = 1,660 53 X l ~ - ~ ~ kg by benadering.
7. In die s t e l s e l van astronomiese konstantes van die Internasionale Astronomiese Unie i s d ie waarde 1 AE = 149 600 X 106 m v i r d ie astronomiese eenheid aanvaar.

EXPLANATORY NOTES TO THE SECOND SCHEDULF:
The CGPM ( ~ o n f 6 r e n c e G n 6 r a l e des Poids e t ~ e s u r e s ) i s the in ternat ional au thor i ty on the SI.
A l l but one of the u n i t s contained i n Table 1 a r e i n such widespread use t h a t they were recognized by the CGPM as u n i t s t o be re ta ined f o r general use with the SI. The u n i t "gm': included i n Table 1, i s not l i s t e d i n t h i s category by the CGPM but i s widely recognized i n metric countries. The name "gradett i s used f o r t h i s u n i t in France.
It i s l ikewise (see 2 above) necessary t o recognize, outside the SI , some other u n i t s which a r e useful i n specia l ized f i e l d s of s c i e n t i f i c research because t h e i r value6,expressed i n S1 units,must be obtained by experiment, and a r e therefore not known exactly. Units recognized in t h i s category a r e l i s t e d in Table 2.
The u n i t s l i s t e d in Tables 3 and 4 a r e regarded a s temporary u n i t s by the CGPM. The u n i t s "textt and t tdioptrett a r e not recognized under the heading of Table 3 by the CGPM but a r e given l e g a l recognit ion i n many countries. Some u n i t s given under t h i s heading by the CGFT a r e given in Table 5 because they a re a l ready being a c t i v e l y el iminated i n the Republic. A s the u n i t s in Tables 3 and 4 a r e of a temporary nature the corresponding S1 u n i t s should preferably be used.
Electronvolt : 1 eV = 160,219 X J approximately.
Atomic mass u n i t (unified): l U = 1,660 53 x 1 0 - ~ ~ kg approximately.
I n the system of astronomical constants of the In te rna t iona l Astronomica i Union the value adopted f o r the astronomical u n i t i s 1 AU = 149 600 X 10 m . Parsec: 1 pc = 206 625 AU = 70,857 X 1015 m . No equivalent value of the sea mile, expressed i n S1 u n i t s , can be given, because it i s a distance which var ies from place t o place on the e a r t h ' s - surface depending on the l a t i tude .
