Tata Power commissions India's first pre-fabricated power distribution centre
http://orissadiary.com/ShowBussinessNews.asp?id=66368
Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company, has always been committed to providing quality and uninterrupted power to
the consumers of Mumbai city by ushering innovative interventions and adopting new technologies. The company endeavours to
innovate to enhance safety, overcome the challenges of paucity of space and care for environment. In line with its commitment to
constantly revolutionise for the benefit of its customers, Tata Power, in collaboration with ABB, has designed and developed the
first power distribution centre (PDC) in India. Tata Power's pre-fabricated 33/11 kV power distribution centre The PDC is a pre-
fabricated modular enclosure that houses the MV switchgear, LV switchgear and auxiliary equipments. This engineered solution
has been innovated to overcome the major challenges faced in rapidly-growing cities and urban areas. Tata Power has been able
to reduce the footprint of the 33 /11kV substation by almost 30 percent, civil cost of construction by 82 percent as well as the
gestation period of establishing the substation by two months. Commenting on the development, Ashok Sethi, COO and ED, Tata
Power, stated, "Recognised as India's largest integrated power company, with a reputation for trustworthiness, built up over ten
decades, Tata Power has always strived to provide superior customer service in line with international standards. The technological
innovations undertaken by us reinforce our commitment to achieve customer satisfaction and delight. Recently, we have also
introduced other innovative solutions such as India's first natural ester-filled transformers and self- protected pad mount substation,
amongst others. This newly engineered solution, PDC, not only it combats space crunch issues but also enhances public safety.
This will not only be beneficial for our consumers but also for the power industry. We will continue to work on further innovations in
technology to ensure uninterrupted services to our consumers." "It is our privilege to work with Tata Power in a spirit of strategic
collaboration to develop innovative technology solutions. ABB's state of the art portfolio of solutions and services that can adapt to
evolving requirements of customers makes it well placed to partner Tata Power's focus on continuous improvements," said Sanjeev
Sharma, country managing director of ABB India. By virtue of being completely inaccessible from outside, the use of PDC has also
enhanced safety for the public. This time-effective and cost-effective alternative to conventional distribution substations has
reinforced the company`s commitment in serving its consumers better.
