Key transport related issues
• There is need to narrow Africa’s huge infrastructure gap;
• Given the many small African economies, regional integration is essential for the continent;
• Landlocked countries need to be more linked to international markets;
• Transport has to support intra-African trade;
• The inadequate state of transport infrastructure and systems in Africa has hampered socio-economic development of the continent;

• Poor national and rural accessibility worsens poverty situation in Africa;
• The performance of the transport sector is also largely dependent on sector governance;
• Increased Urbanization requiring more efficient mobility;
• Project preparation and Implementation is still hampered by institutional capacity issues;
• Sustainability of investments in the sector remains a challenge.

• 400 km of feeder roads to be constructed
• 30 classrooms to be built and equipped
• 2 hospitals emergency units and 10 medical centers
• 30 markets to be built
• 20 community centers and 14 schools to be equipped with ICT
• 1500 women to be trained in marketing and trading activities
• 250 staff to be trained through capacity building program

• Mombasa – Nairobi – Addis Ababa development corridor (Kenya/Ethiopia): 780 km of road, OSBP, studies: USD 656 million
• Lake Victoria maritime communication (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda) : reinforcing navigation safety on the largest African lake: USD 37 million
• Dar es Selam Bus Rapid Transit : 20 km bus lanes and studies: USD 160 million• Kibuye –Mpigi-And Kagitumba – Rusomo (Uganda/Rwanda): 208 km road, 24 km
