  • 1.) Are you a deviant? Explain your answer

I am normally a deviant due to my personal decisions that are averse to the customs of my family. Each of the member in my household practices a medical career, specifically dentistry and it was the desire of my traditional parents that I take the similar line of work. However, growing up to a rather different and creative environment had me develop a strong inclination to arts and music, thus, prompting me to deviate and pursue a profession related to it. My commitment to the industry does not favor my familys ideals and this has caused vague rift in my relationship with them. Regardless of that, it has been channeled as my motivation to be successful in the future and prove not to them, but to myself that what I have dreamed of is truly achievable.

2.) Present various forms and reasons of deviance using the various

    Theoretical Viewpoints of Deviance

    a. Social Learning Theory This theory suggests that a persons deviance is highly influenced by the deviant behavior of persons they are acquainted with. A good form of this theory is typical to adolescent and adults; peer pressure forces a person to commit the same crime as his friends. For example, smoking, drinking, going out and club hopping late in the evening usually defies family curfew rules, but a person may justify such act upon experiencing it with peers who does the same defiant act.

    b. Strain theory

This theory focuses on the pressure caused by the requirement to achieve culturally accepted goals and the efforts to find admissible means. For instance, individuals who are financially unstable and unsuccessful in their careers might find alternatives that are deviant in perspective, like drug pushing or other illegal schemes.
