Members have helped provide meals to those in need at St. Vincent de Paul and participated in walks to bring awareness to muscular dystrophy and kidney disease.

At St. Vincent de Paul, our Team Members provided over 700 meals to those in need. Team Members from Wild Horse Pass, Lone Butte and Vee Quiva traveled to the Unger Dining Room on St. Vincent’s main campus where they helped serve meals, bus tables and clean the dining room. At walks for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the National Kidney Foundation, our Gila River Casinos Volunteer Team helped show support for these causes and raised awareness in the fight against these debilitating diseases.

The spirit of volunteerism is alive and well in the Team Members at Gila River Casinos and I wish to thank you all for continuing to go above and beyond in everything you do! Sincerely,John J. James

THE MEANING OF LIFE

vEE QuIvA GOES MARDI GRAS

Quick history lesson. Ready? Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948) was a wise and respected civil rights leader that led India to independence from British rule. He employed non-violent civil disobedience to become an icon not only in his country, but also around the globe. In short, his lifetime of kindness made a genuine difference. So, you’re probably asking yourself, “How does this apply to us?” right about now. Good question! Gandhi once said, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” In short, there is no greater joy than simply living to give. That’s it, really. The meaning of life can be boiled down to a few words and an easily understood concept. The hard part is buying-in and totally embrac-ing the philosophy to reap the countless benefits. But to make it a little easier, why not try it on for size for just one day? How about one week? Set a defined time and who knows... you might experience enough joy to live it a lifetime.

Gila River Casinos Volunteer Team got a big boost from the graveyard shift at the Wild Horse Pass food court at the MDA Muscle Walk this past month. After working an entire shift several Team Members of the graveyard shift, led by Kelly Black manned the booth at the walk near Tempe Town Lake. The volunteers spread the word about Gila River Casinos support of the MDA and their “Make a Muscle Make a Difference” campaign and helped walkers have a great time while visiting the Gila River Casinos booth. Thank you to all the Team Members who came out to volunteer for the walk and a special thank you to Kelly and her dedicated Team.

Team Members at Vee Quiva Casino will begin to see a change in the table games area this month. The entire pit will receive a Mardi Gras make over with new blackjack table felts, decorative Mardi Gras fat heads and new Mardi Gras themed uniforms

for dealers. The new theme will be coupled with exciting

new promotions and tournaments and a

return of the party pit.

A position in human resources as a personnel representative may seem like a curious fit for a marketing graduate from Arizona State University, but this month’s spotlighted Team Member has discovered unique ways to use all her skills in her position.

Chantel joined Gila River Casinos nearly one year ago as a Player’s Club Representative at Lone Butte Casino. She says she learned a lot from her time in that first position. “It was a really great way to learn first-hand about what our guests see when they visit

our casinos,” said Chantel. “I think the experiences I had as a Player’s Club Representative were a great introduction to a career in the casino industry.”

While she values her time spent in that first position, she is very happy to be taking on the role of Personnel Representative. “It’s great to work with all the different departments I get to work with as part of my job,” says Chantel. I get to really interact with everyone from all three properties and I am getting to use some of the skills from my marketing background.” Chantel has helped to design the collateral for the new Excellence and Team Performance awards and she has created outreach for the Team Member ticket programs which randomly award GRGE and Ovations Team Members with tickets to events all year long.

The Gila River Indian Community, Wild Horse Pass Development Authority and Simon property group officially broke ground on the Phoenix Premium Outlets project which will open just north of Wild Horse Pass Hotel & Casino in spring of 2013. St. Peters Mission School opened up the ceremony with traditional songs and dances and were

invited back for the grand opening next year.

This year the Gila River Indian Community celebrated the 50th anniversary of Mul-Chu-Tha. This annual parade, fair and rodeo is one of the largest annual events in the Gila River Indian Community and Gila River Casinos was proud to be a part of the festivities. Howler, Baxter and Big Red joined the Gila River Casinos float entry in the parade and delighted the crowd along the route as they posed for pictures and interacted with Community Members. At the fair representatives from the Phoenix Coyotes and Arizona Diamondbacks were joined by Arizona Cardinals players; Dan Williams, Greg Toler and Jeremy Bridges as well as members of the Cardinals cheerleaders.
