Introduction to Block.onePrepared by Block.one media team
Block.one
Block.one is the leader in high-performance blockchain software. In 2018, it published the EOSIO software, a free, open-source protocol designed to be adapted and utilized by the developer community and companies to create a secure and transparent back-end system. EOSIO is regarded as the fastest, most scalable, most active blockchain software in the world. It addresses the limitations of first-generation blockchain platforms while retaining the core benefits of the technology: security, accountability and immutability.
Block.one also aims to foster a robust blockchain ecosystem through developing and supporting projects built on EOSIO via its venture capital unit, EOS VC.
Brendan BlumerCHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICERHONG KONG
Brendan was an early investor in blockchain and transitioned to full-time involvement in the space in 2016 when he met business partner Dan Larimer and they co-founded Block.one.
Prior to Block.one, Brendan launched and exited a series of successful businesses. At age 15, he founded his first company, Gamecliff, which sold digital assets used in one of the world’s most popular online Role Playing Games, World of Warcraft, and was eventually acquired. In 2007, he started The Accounts Network, a first-of-its-kind online marketplace for in-game avatars used in Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games, capturing 75% market share and generating USD 1 million revenue in just 3 months.
In 2010, he founded Okay.com, which leveraged technology to empower and inform real estate consultants and consumers about market conditions.
Daniel LarimerCHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICERBLACKSBURG, VA
Dan is one of the leading innovators, engineers and thought leaders in the blockchain space. He is the co-founder of an array of successful blockchain companies, most notably the decentralized exchange BitShares, the social media network Steemit, and Block.one, publisher of the EOSIO protocol, all of which provide industrial and enterprise-grade blockchain solutions utilizing the widely-adopted Delegated Proof of Stake (DPOS) consensus mechanism, which he invented.
Recognized as an industry pioneer, Dan is one of the most high-profile figures in the blockchain arena, having garnered a decade’s worth of entrepreneurial and technical experience in the field.

What Is a Blockchain?
A blockchain is a growing list of records, “blocks”, which are linked using cryptography. Each block contains a cryptographic hash of the previous block, a timestamp, and transaction data.
By design, a blockchain is resistant to modification of the data. It is “an open, distributed ledger that can record transactions between two parties efficiently and in a verifiable and permanent way.”
Blockchain Characteristics
A Database Technology, Not an Industry· It can be used to create and track digital representations of any type of asset, item or idea (including natively digital goods)
· It will impact a variety of industries including social media, financial services, healthcare, retail, gaming and energy and can be used for supply chain tracking and identity management
· It is important to recognize the broad array of assets and other items that can be digitized on blockchains, including tangible assets such as gold, coffee cups, shoes and collectibles
· Creating a digital representation of an asset does not change the asset’s character or nature
Strengths Lie in Transparency, Immutability and Security· Core benefits include transparency, censorship resistance (immutability), security and orderly data structures which result in a high degree of auditability and reliability
· Transparency enables identical visibility of ledger information across all users
· It is designed to resist the alternation of data, eliminating asymmetric information
· Blockchains are also distributed, which means there is no single point of failure or attack vector for hackers or other malicious actors
Decentralization Basics
Centralized Ledger· Bank holds master record · Each client site has its own ledger· Each client reconciles to bank · Must dispute each difference
Decentralized Ledger· There is one ledger · All nodes have access to ledger · All nodes work to approve reconcile · Achieve consensus
Client A Client C
Client B Client D
Node A
Node BNode E
Node D Node C
How Does It Work?
Someone submits a transaction
The transaction is recorded
The transaction issent to the network
Newly created block is permanentlycommitted to the blockchain
Validation can involvea cryptocurrency,
smart contract or other record
Verified transactions are combined and a new block
is created on the ledger
Validation
The network of nodesvalidates the transaction and
comes to consensus

About Voice
Voice is a social platform created by Block.one that aims to redefine social media by cultivating creation, sharing, discovery and promotion of content by real users. Through a self-sustaining economy of ideas and utilization of the Voice Token (where available), Voice puts control back into the hands of the users creating an opportunity for them to directly benefit from their ideas and engagement on the platform. Built on the
EOSIO protocol, Voice benefits from inherent characteristics of blockchain technology: security, accountability, and immutability, to enable trusted and transparent social interactions on the application.
Voice will be launched on the EOS Public Blockchain. For more information, please visit voice.com
About Voice
Characteristics of Voice: · Interactions on Voice will be public, enabling trusted and transparent social interactions to be a core part of the experience
· Voice is looking at social media in a new way, creating a platform where the value of good content gets circulated right back into sustaining the community, not corporate bottom lines
· Everyone - the user, the contributor, the platform - plays by the same rules. There are no hidden algorithms, no invisible interests
