Penobscot Bay is considered by many to be the heart of the Maine coast. Several of Maine’s biggest industries have a long history in this region, including fi shing, ship building, and granite quarrying. In additi on to its rich economic history, Penob-scot Bay is home to some of the most breathtaking landscapes on the east coast. From adventurous paddling on the open waters around the far fl ung islands to quiet explorati on of the channels and coves amongst the dense inner islands, this region contains a superb variety of sea kayaking opportuniti es.

Paddling this area can take several days, depending on how many tempti ng spots you succumb to along the way: swimming in fresh water quarries on Green Island; searching for feral sheep on the grassy slopes of Russ Island; walking along the Caribbean like beach of Sand Island. With dozens of opti ons for adventurous explorati on the paddling can be endless! This trip provides the explorer with scenic landscapes and a variety of wildlife.
