Dear Parents/Carers Next week our long serving Pre-school Assistant, Amanda Bagley will be
finishing her work at Jingili Pre-school. Amanda has worked in our
Pre-school since 2000 and prior to that she had worked in a variety of
other NT schools since 1981. Amanda is taking leave for the rest of this
year before officially retiring in January. We will be organising a special
farewell for Amanda on November 20th so please note that date.
Thank-you Amanda for your 20 years of dedicated service to our
Pre-school and school. We will miss you but wish you all the very best as
you embark on new adventures.
I’d also like to thank Kim Yates for all her efforts in running the canteen for the past year. We’ll all
the miss your positive messages, especially friendly service and impromptu music sessions. We
wish Kim all the very best as she supports her husband’s business and explores new opportunities.
Tomorrow our students will be able to participate in a modified Sports Day. We encourage children
to dress up in their house colours or simply wear their Jingili House Team shirts on the day. Upper
Primary students will also be participating in some running races on Thursday, including the
optional 1km challenge. As per the term 2 COVID 19 guidelines, unfortunately we cannot invite
parents to this event.
Next week is the last week of term 2 before the three week break. Holidays will go from 29th June to
20th July. School will resume on Tuesday 21st July. We’re expecting some updated guidelines
shortly with regard to COVID 19 and how we respond in term 3. I will communicate these guidelines
next week.
Our last assembly will be held on Friday 26th June. We will announce the winner of Sports Day and
enjoy a performance by T/1 Rioli.
Kind regards
Carin Symonds

Thank you to all students, staff and parents for your incredibly fun and fulfilling times at Jingili School Canteen. I have enjoyed this year, and due to opportunities and life changes, it is time to move on. I will treasure the time with all the wonderful children at school, encouraging them to practice joy, explore new foods, enjoy music, and minimise single use plastic. A big thanks to Kirstene and all the wonderful volunteers that have popped in. I feel very lucky to have made some lovely friendships, and are extremely proud to be a part of the Jingili Community. Thank you for your support. Best wishes Kim

Preschool News
Our ‘Swim and survive’ program at Nightcliff Pool has been to be a great success over the past fortnight and it has been fantastic to see our Preschoolers developing so much confidence in the water. Thank you to everyone who supported this important program by having their child participate. These sessions provide essential water safety skills for our children. Next Friday 26th June is the last day of term 2. We are sad to announce that this will also be Amanda Bagley’s last day with us at Jingili Preschool. After a career in education spanning almost 40 years (and 20 years at Jingili Preschool) Amanda has decided to take some well-deserved long service leave for the remainder of this year and she plans to formally retire in 2021. Due to the continuing COVID 19 restrictions in Schools, we are postponing Amanda’s big ‘Farewell’ until November so that we can have families involved. Thank you Amanda for the amazing contribution you have made to our Preschool and School community over the years – we will miss you! Tara Metcalf will be taking 3 days of long service leave from the 24th - 26th June (the last 3 days of term). Ms Rachael Kuhl will be working with the AM group on these dates. Next term we welcome Ms Linda Hakala to our Preschool Team as the Preschool Assistant for the Morning Group. Linda has a wealth of experience in early childhood education and has been working at Jingili Primary School for a number of years. We look forward to having her on board. Tomorrow the Preschool children will have the opportunity to participate in running races on Jingili oval as part of the modified Sports Day program. The Preschool Team
Kitchen Garden at Jingili Hello Jingili Community, we hope you are well and enjoying the weather of the Damabila (barramundi and bush fruit time) and Dinidjanggama (heavy dew time). In Upper primary classes we have made grape vine and rice dolmades pies with a yoghurt and lemon sauce. They were a salty, sour and delicious treat. Early childhood students tasted some mint from our aquaponics system and are learning more about the Jade Perch and the nitrogen cycle. All students have been learning more about birrdibirripba (dragonflies in Larrakia language). Thank you! Kylie, Zoe and Marty for the donation of the beautiful home grown lemons. They have been
lovingly made into preserved lemons. These will be for sale on the produce stall next term. The grapevine leaf and rice recipe is in the newsletter if you’d like to try and make it at home
together. We love hearing from students about what they are growing and cooking at home. Sounds like lots of families and busy in their gardens and kitchens! Jodi & Jodi
COVID 19 Term 2 Guidelines for schools
While we are operating under the COVID 19 guidelines there are a few things we ask that parents help us with. 1. Drink Bottles: children cannot use the bubblers at school. Please
ensure that you child has a water bottle with their name clearly marked everyday.
2. Birthday Cakes: we need to ensure children don ’t share food. Until these guidelines are lifted we ask that parents do not send birthday cakes to school. Teachers will happily find ways to recognise your child’s special day in other ways.
3. Parents in schools: we’ve been asked to continue to encourage physical distancing , keep the numbers of adults in the school to a minimum and discourage parents from entering classrooms. Please remember to minimise your time in the school and don’t linger.
We appreciate that parents are doing their best to follow these guidelines and thank-you for your understanding.
Bike Helmets - By one of our Year 4 Students
I did not wear my helmet to school on Tuesday when I rode my bike. I got into trouble because I did not wear a helmet. I broke the law. All kids in the NT must wear helmets. nt.gov.au>child-safety>vehicles-bikes-and-sk.....
Bike Helmets
Just recently we’ve noticed that a number of children are not wearing bike helmets. The following information comes from the NT Road Safety website regarding the importance of our children wearing a bike helmet for protection. Approved bike helmets provide improved protection in case of an accident or crash with another rider, pedestrian or vehicle. Your helmet must meet the Australian standards as well as being properly fitted and fastened. If you're 17 or under, you must wear an approved helmet if you're riding on a public place or footpath. If you're over 17, you are not required to wear a helmet on a public place or footpath unless riding on the road. However, to keep everyone safer regardless of age, it is best to always wear a helmet.
Helmet safety check
The helmet must meet all of the following:
have an Australian Standards sticker
not be broken or damaged
fit snugly and must not be too tight or too loose
cover the forehead and temples
have a chinstrap clip that is not broken and fastens firmly.
Check the rider can put the helmet on and buckle up the clip.
How to fit a child's helmet
A helmet should fit snugly. A helmet that is too small will not protect the head properly and you should purchase the next size helmet. Carefully measure your child's head using a tape measure. The tape measure should sit just above their eyes and ears. Check the helmet size listed on the display box to find a helmet that best suits your child's head measurement. Manufacturers provide pads that can be attached to the inside of the helmet. Use the thicker pads to get a snug fit. As your child
grows replace these with the thinner pads or purchase helmets which have adjustable rear head locks for a better fit.
Check the helmet fits
You should follow these steps:
Step 1. Place the helmet on your child's head checking that it fits snugly. Step 2. Adjust the straps over the ears and do up the buckle - it should sit straight on your child's head with room for one finger
under the chin strap. Step 3. Place your palm under the front of the helmet and push up and back - the helmet should not move.
For maximum protection the helmet must be a snug fit and securely fastened. If a helmet is loose it increases the risk of injury.
LOST PROPERTY
Don’t forget to check lost property for any missing
items. We have a lot of jackets, jumpers, lunch boxes.
Please make sure you child’s items are marked with
their names.
