Improve the experience of care

Patients are being increasingly empowered to digitize themselves.

• 500k customers have taken advantage of low-cost genetic profiling

• Quantified-self movement enables individuals to create and analyze their own physiological and behavioral data

Big Idea: Integration of personal health data with non-medical* data will broaden our understanding of epigenetic effects on individual well-being.

*e.g. environmental, behavioral

Improve the health of defined populations

Large scale, multi-dimensional*, clinical datasets will

• Improve our understanding of the effectiveness of alternative therapies

• Enhance data driven patient specific decision making

• Inform the efficient allocation of resources across a population of patients.

Big Idea: Real time data-driven decision networks will accelerate the pace of discovery by simplifying identification and recruitment of subjects for clinical trials.

*medical records, lab tests, pathology, genomics, radiologic images, physiologic sensors, etc.

Reduce the per capita costs of healthcare

Rising national healthcare expenditures, as a percent of GDP, are forcing governments to take action.

• Incentives and penalties to improve the value of healthcare services.

• Increased transparency and reporting requirements for outcomes, quality, and cost.

• Open data initiatives and the Data Liberation movement.

Big Idea: The availability of high quality clinical and outcomes data integrated with cost data across settings-of-care will lead to widely accepted and validated care pathway models.
