Way Out WestEnjoy the spoils of the Northwest Valley
For those who live in the Valley, the Northwest has been a bit of an enigma. For years, the area has been seen as a sea of farming and agricultural communities just trying to keep up with the exploding growth happening to its neighbors to the east.
But in recent years, the Northwest Valley has quietly experienced a surge of development and growth, securing some of the most enviable venues in the Valley. With the University of Phoenix Stadium, Jobing.com Arena, Westgate City Center, Peoria Sports Complex, Challenger Space Center and numerous upscale residential and retail developments calling the Northwest Valley home, the area has come alive with a unique mix of cultural, recreational, shopping and dining offerings that rival those of Phoenix and Scottsdale.
However, no matter how much growth the area experiences, it still remains true to its small town heritage that has added that certain charm and cache to its appeal. Historic downtown Glendale is the perfect example of this, creating a perfect balance between history and growth. Visit downtown’s renowned antique district, filled with one-of-a-kind finds, or stop by one of the many unique boutiques housed in historic homes and bungalows.
In this premier issue of You Are Here: Northwest Valley, you’ll discover the great things to see and do in this dynamic and ever-changing area. From thrilling sports action, to blockbuster concerts and performances, to cultural offerings at a diverse array of museums, the Northwest Valley is the Valley’s best kept secret.
GettING Here The Northwest Valley is
primarily made up of the cities of Glendale, Peoria, Sun City and Surprise. Farther to the north is the Deer Valley and Lake Pleasant areas, while to the southwest is
Litchfield Park.
By Car Get to the Northwest Valley
by taking Interstate 17 north or the Loop 101 west. On the I-17, exit Glendale Avenue to reach Glendale, Bell Road to Peoria and Surprise. Take the same exits from the Loop 101. The area can also be
accessed from Interstate 10 where drivers can exit avenue
side streets heading north.
By Bus Valley Metro serves the entire Northwest Valley
area with transit centers at Metrocenter and Arrowhead
Towne Center, as well as park and rides in Glendale, Peoria and Deer Valley. For routes and schedules, visit
valleymetro.org.
By Bicycle There are designated bike
trails throughout the Northwest Valley. Paved and unpaved multi-use trails are available, giving bicyclists
easy access to retail and residential developments.

Get OutOutdoor fun abounds in the Northwest Valley
If there’s one thing the Northwest Valley has, it’s space. From green fields to the open desert, the area has room and lots of it.
What better to fill those wide open spaces than with a plethora of parks, activity centers and sports complexes. the centerpiece for any sports lover is, of course, the University of Phoenix Stadium, home to the 2008 NFC Champion Arizona Cardinals. Located in Glendale, the venue also hosts the tostitos Fiesta Bowl and a variety of other sporting events ranging from soccer
to monster truck rallies. A stone’s throw away is Jobing.com Arena, home to the Phoenix Coyotes. And then there’s baseball. the Peoria Sports Complex and Surprise Stadium host Major League Baseball spring training, as well as other baseball programs and special events. It doesn’t end there, though. the Northwest Valley is filled with golf courses, tennis centers, hiking and biking trails, as well as access to beautiful parks and recreation areas.
