Arrive Alive caMPaign continued tHrougHout May...
On 5/6, the Glen Allen High School PTSA Jaguars Drive Smart PSA about distracted driving was named the winner of the YOVASO/Unite International contest. On 5/21, Unite International was at the school with the driving simulator that showed students the issues with driving under the influence and texting while driving.
The week of 5/6 continued with the PTSA gifting staff members with Arrive Alive t-shirts which they wore on 5/7 in support of our message to “white out” distracted driving. Mother Nature got in the way and we moved our “White Out” game to 5/9 where JDS members gave out sunglasses and key chains and encouraged patrons to white out distracted driving!
Throughout the program JDS students helped create PSAs which were either shown on the morning announcements or posted to our Facebook page. On 5/15 cookies
were given out to all Jstep classes with Arrive Alive messages.
A crashed car was placed in front of the school during prom week provided by
Broyle’s Towing as a visual reminder to stay safe during prom season. We also promoted our safe and drug and alcohol free after prom party during this time and asked students to sign a prom pledge on the 17th!
Also, on 5/17 we conducted our end of the campaign distracted driving check. We were down from 14% to 4% of the cars checked with distractions: 360 cars checked, 14 distractions. We handed out information on driving safely during prom and graduation season and gave out key chains, bumper stickers, and candy.

About PTA Reflections Everyone deserves opportunities to explore and be involved in the arts. The National PTA Reflections program is PTA’s cornerstone arts program. It was developed in 1969 by Co PTA President Mary Lou Anderson to encourage students to explore their talents and express themselves. Since then, the Reflections Program has inspired millions of students to reflect on a specific theme and create original artwork. Each year, students in all grades are recognized for bringing the theme to life through dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts.
