Session Outline• You could start the session by discovering a miniature fairy door by a tree. Explain that you are going to hunt for signs of fairies.
• Grasp the children’s imagination and curiosity by picking up a piece of nature and asking what it is. (E.g. you could pick up a stick. The children may look at you ‘gone-out’ and say, “it’s a stick of course!” You can then demonstrate creativity by replying, “No it’s not a stick it’s a fairy’s wand…” You could demonstrate a few more examples as you explore your outdoor area.
• Tell the children that they are going to hunt for signs of fairies in their outdoor area.
• You may wish to provide the Fairy Hunt Sheet (Scroll down). • Encourage the children to think of their own ideas and make up their own fairy
creations.Differentiation: HA- Can they explain why they have chosen that particular fairy description for the item of nature?LA- Prompts for descriptions.Extension:This activity leads on perfectly to Fairy Homes.
