PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
I would like to remind parents and carers that I will
be taking Long Service Leave commencing
Monday 16th September for the remainder of Term
3. Mrs Gibson Dean will take on the role of Relieving
Principal in my absence. Ms O’Keefe will be
teaching 5/6G during this time. Please do not
hesitate to speak with Mrs Gibson Dean if you have
any inquiries over the coming weeks.
As we approach the final weeks of term, it is always
a busy time for students, teachers and families.
There are many planned activities for our students
to look forward to including the Lake Learning
Community Public Speaking Competition Finals,
Bike Days, SRC initiatives and incursions.
Remedial works have been carried out on the hole
that appeared in the grassed staff carpark. Upon
investigation, it was an old unused septic tank.

opportunity for our students.
PREMIER’S SPELLING BEE
There was plenty of stiff competition at the
Regional Finals of the Premier’s Spelling Bee at
Hayes Park PS last Monday. Although our

school proud and were terrific ambassadors for
Lake Illawarra South.

Students from Kindergarten to Year 2 were able to

CRUNCH ‘N SIP
Crunch ‘n Sip is a break during class when students
can refuel on fruit and veg and rehydrate on
water. The break assists students with physical and
mental performance, and concentration in the
classroom.
Crunch ‘n Sip encourages fruit and vegetable
snacking and drinking water. Healthy eating
behaviours are modelled in the classroom and
reinforce the nutrition messages in the PD/H/PE
curriculum. By making fruit and vegetable eating
and water drinking normal in the classroom,
healthy habits can be formed and continued into
adolescence and adulthood.
The Crunch ‘n Sip break gives students the
opportunity to eat the piece of fruit that might
otherwise be left in their lunchbox. Students are
also more likely to eat their fruit or vegetables and
drink their water if their friends and peers are all
doing it too. Please make sure your child has a
piece of fruit or vegetables and small bottle of
water each day.
STUDENT ATTENDANCE
Education for your child is important and regular
attendance at school is essential for your child to
achieve their educational best and increase their
career and life options. Lake Illawarra South Public
School works in partnership with parents to
encourage and support regular attendance of our
students. When your child attends school every
day, learning becomes easier and your child will
build and maintain friendships with other children.
