INTrOduCTIONLeader Cable Industry Berhad (LCIB), incorporated in 1976, has grown steadily to become the
countrys single largest cable manufacturer today since its 1990 merger with Universal Cable
(M) Berhad under the agship of its parent, Leader Universal Holdings Berhad (LEADER)
Through its far sighted planning and unceasing product and service innovation, LCIB
has successfully cultivated a manufacturing prole of an extensive range of cableand wire products.
From household cables, XLPE cables, telecommunication cables for both
domestic and export markets to aluminium rods and enamelled wires, LCIB
has achieved a distinguished reputation as a leading supplier of power and
telecommunication cables to major corporations both local and foreign.
Today, as a subsidiary of the LEADER group of companies, LCIB has
one of the most advanced facilities for manufacturing telecommunication
cables in the Asia Pacic region.
LCIBs telecommunicatin cable products include internal wires, jumper
wires, switchboard cables, multi-pair telephone cables and integral
bearer cables. Integral bearer cables are polyethylene insulated, unit twin-
type and moisture barrier sheathed. Telephone cables include P.E.U.T.F.F.
(polyethylene insulated, unit twin-type, fully-lled, polyethylene sheathed) and
P.E.U.T. (polyethylene insulated, unit twin-type, moisture barrier polyethylene
sheathed) construction types. P.E.U.T. type telephone cables are normally used for
local primary and junction network.
The telecommunication cables manufactured today by LCIBs manufacturing processes and
standards in the manufacturing of telecommunication cables.

TELECOMMuNICATION
CABLEThe diverse application environment in the telecommunication and information technologysectors requires a wide range of cable solutions. Today, two main congurations of cables
are in use : paired cables and quad cables. The type of conguration used depends on the
telephone system standard that is adopted by various countries. However, to satisfy different
customer requirements, we have the capability to manufacture both paired and quadcongurations.
The manufacturing process of telephone cables involves several processes.
However, depending on the cable specications as provided by the customer, certain processes may be by-passed or added.
The materials used in the manufacture of telephone cables and wires arecarefully selected and controlled to ensure sustained reliable service in allproducts. Conductors used are annealed solid high conductivity copperwhich are drawn to the required sizes prior to insulation. The insulationmaterial may be extruded solid or foam skin polyethylene. Some cables
which are used in internal applications may also be insulated withpolyvinyl chloride (PVC). These insulated wires are then twinned to formpairs or alternatively, four wires are twisted to form a quad conguration.
Generally, cables are then constructed from the basic insulated elementsof either pairs or quads, which are twined and assembled into the
required nal cable size. Customers may request for jelly-lled cables
depending on their application requirements. In such specications,
an approved electrical grade of petroleum jelly is applied to fully ll the
interstices of the cable. A layer of mylar tape is then applied over the jelly-
lled cable.
Where specied by the customer, a moisture barrier sheath may be helically or
longitudinally applied. Metallic screens, drain wires and rip cords can also be applied if
specied in the customers requirements.
The telephone cable then undergoes a nal sheathing process where the outer jacket is
extruded over the cable to provide protection from physical stress.
Through the use of state-of-the-art manufacturing technology that is matched by technicallyexperienced personnel, we have been able to provide a range of well-engineered and cost
effective telephone cable solutions for customers both locally and internationally.
