• Examples - Musicians, authors, artists and inventors represent those who need his or her creations protected.

Copyright• Copyright. What is it?• Copyright is the legal right granted to musicians,

authors, writers etc. with exclusive rights protecting his or her work.

• Teach Act – copyright law introduced exclusively for online education

• Digital educational material are subject to copyright laws but under Teach Act there are exemptions.

• Examples – E-books, audio/video

Fair Use• Fair Use. What is it?• The conditions under which a

person can utilize copyrighted material without paying royalties.

• The Teach Act (2002)

• Audio/visual permitted for use.

• Distant education use these guidelines for using copyrighted materials.

Privacy Policies• Personal information - Confidential

• Privacy and security for both faculty and students.

• Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act is a Federal law. (FERPA)
