Vocabulary“Training Day”

• Open your reading book to pg 18!• Listen to me read this story. Our first dog-training class was today. It was no

coincidence that Buddy’s red collar matched my red sweater. I wanted us to look like partners today!

The teacher was pleasant and calm. We watched as she modeled the first command. “Sit!” she said. She held her hand just above her dog’s head. As he looked up at her hand, he sat down. “Good Dog,” she said. I copied her command, but Buddy wouldn’t sit!

T42-44 Student Edition 18-19

Vocabulary“ Training Day”

Buddy and I practiced the “sit” command all morning. In class, I was the first person to try the command. “Sit,” I murmured. Buddy looked at me and stood.

“Speak firmly,” the teacher said. “Your dog is loyal and wants to obey you.”

“Sit!,” I said. Buddy sat! “Good dog!” I said. We learned more commands. As I recited each one, Buddy seemed to know what to do. I was very proud of him!
