Group 1 – Walk From Obesity

The Group 1 CATP focused on alerting the general community on the dangers of obesity and promoted a healthier lifestyle

through the incorporation of small daily activities such as walking.

The project was completed in conjunction with the Jackson Medical Mall and CoHa and

included a one-mile walk around the Jackson Medical Mall.

Participants in the walk were rewarded for their efforts with a

Group 2 – Home Away From Home Brain Injury Health Fair

Group 2 completed two CATPs both in connection with activities at the University Medical Center. The activities completed included the Blair E. Batson home Away From Home Project and the Brain Injury Health Fair.

The Home Away From Home Project was a fundraiser in support of the children and families who are often at the hospital for extended periods of time. The project solicited monetary, toys and other needed items for patients in the Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital.

The Brain Injury Health fair focus brought Executive Director, Lee Jenkins, of the Brain Injury Association of MS and the Associate Executive Director, Dana Pierce, in to talk with parents about brain related types of injuries, helmet laws, and their relationship with Batson Hospital.  Thus, this coincides with the Batson Home Away From Home Theme.

In an effort to assist in addressing some of the needs at the Blair E. Batson Hospital, Leadership Greater Jackson teamed up with the Jackson Progressives to host a wonderful

event in support of the Home Away from Home Program,.On Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at Hal and Mal's in Downtown Jackson the Jackson

Progressives and Leadership Greater Jackson sponsored a Holiday Social Fundraising event.

Guests donated countless items to benefit the children undergoing long-term and rehab care at the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children-as well as their families. Items included

everything from clothing and hair-care products to toothbrushes and toothpaste, deodorant, razors, lotion and much more-all important items that patients and their families will find useful for living their daily lives during their extended stay at the

hospital.

Co-sponsors were the Jackson Progressives; Jackson Free Press, print sponsor. An article was run in the Clarion-Ledger, and the event was announced on Mississippi Public

Broadcasting and WJTV Channel 12. The event was also featured in VIP and Jackson magazines, and on VIP’s website. Special thanks went out to the University of Mississippi Medical Center for their cooperation and support; to Hal and Mal's for donating the space; to DJ Phingaprint for spinning tunes all night; to the Jason Turner Band for providing some

great entertainment.

Nearly $1,000 was raised at the door alone.
