Download - Linear function
•Starting from the left end of the
line and going across to the right is
positive (but going across to the left
is negative).
•Up is positive, and down is
negative
Slope =3
0= 𝑢𝑛𝑑𝑒𝑓𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑑
This one is a little bittricky ... youcan't divide by zero,so a "straight up anddown" (Vertical) line'sslope is "undefined".
If the slope is positive, the line is increasing.
If the slope is negative, the line is decreasing.
Horizontal lines have a slope of zero.
Vertical lines have an undefined slope. These are not functions.
Parallel lines have equal slope.
Perpendicular lines have slopes which are
reciprocal of each other.
Activity Title: Slope of a Straight Line
Type of Activity: Seatwork
Learning Target: To determine the x-and y-intercepts, the slope, on the graph and the trend of the function.

y-intercept is the value of y when x=0.
x-intercept is the value of x when y=0.
