Welcome! to the Lynton & Lynmouth Comedy Festival.

For one weekend you can experience a fantastic range of live events, comedy acts and fringe shows, with appeal for all ages and tastes. We have tried to include something for everyone – and it’s all free!

The acts have come from across the country and their shows are all of a high standard, many of which having recently won comedy awards. So please come and support the shows and events, and bring your family and friends. It is not every day you can get this much culture for free in our little corner of the world, so please make the most of it and make it a big event.

If you have kids, join in with the custard pie throw on Lynmouth foreshore or come with your friends to enjoy comedy at the various venues. If you fancy something different, try our Extreme Knitting Club, the Laughter Workshop and Scrabble Sunday. Also, please take out a bit of time in the day to peruse the shops and support the local businesses - Lynton & Lynmouth have some fantastic places to eat and shop for when you aren’t busily in histerics watching the shows.

A frenetic, high energy show that never fails to deliver…a guaranteed good time! “The kings of comedy mash ups”.* This show replaces Abandoman, who unfortunately have had to pull out due to another commitment that has overrun.

Gentlemen of LeisureCulture? In the comedy section? Well, after a fashion – a very funny fashion, as it happens. This is a smart, funny show which is recommended to all gentlemen. And ladies.* This show replaces Broken Biscuits, who unfortunately have had to pull out due to another commitment that has overrun.

Bobby Caroll “I hope you don’t live like me” (18+)A rare find...Fresh, funny, keen observations about sex and relationships... London based comic now on his 4th year with a show at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Friday, 9pm, The Crown, Lynton

Nik Coppin “Shaggers” (16+) Inspired by many a conversation based around the more mischievous side of festival and comedy circuit fun, it was decided that a show about said situations should be put on. To hear most performers and those that look on tell their tales of copulation, it quickly becomes apparent that in tragedy, there truly is comedy. Nik Coppin’s show comes to Lynton from a summer of the Edinburgh Fringe and a Scottish Tour.

BuskingSeveral music artists have committed to playing during the afternoons. Look out for music at selected random locations around the towns. If you can play, or are part of a band, why not come along and join in as well?

Custard Pie Throw & Crazy Costume Competition!A family friendly event where we’re looking for any brave kids, parents, or indeed anyone who has a bit of inner craziness, to come along to Lynmouth. Join our hosts Hopps & Chapple on the foreshore Sunday afternoon, preferably come dressed up, as ridiculously as possible - we’ll have a prize for the most crazy costume, but be prepared to get a bit messy first....

Matthew Highton “Incidental Combobulations”A surreal ride into the strange and the fantastical as Matthew’s mind takes you into bizzare and wonderful series of incidental combobulations. “Awesomely surreal… my favourite act so far this festival, it seems almost criminal that his show was free.” “One to look out for in the future.”

Gerry HowellBBC College of Comedy writer and award-winning comedian. “Surreal rambling brilliance… A truly brilliant rising talent… A one man Mighty Boosh” - Time Out Magazine. You can also catch his show where he brings alive his alter ego in, “The Fantastic Reality of Fredrick Goodge”, later on Saturday night. A highly entertaining and somewhat surreal show.

Marcel Lucont “Encore”Lover, raconteur, misanthrope: Marcel Lucont is all these things…and much, much more. After a successful debut at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe, French stand-up Marcel has gone on to further success, playing comedy festivals in Australia and New Zealand, popping up on television and winning 2009’s Buxton Fringe Award. “Fresh, accessible and hilarious... Has firmly established himself as one to watch” - The Guardian.

Wendy May’s Boom Boom RoomBoom Boom Room is coming to Lynton, specially for one night only. Normally one of the hidden treasures of Bideford once a month, dance care-free to Wendy’s truly delectable mix of Soul-Funk-R&Blues-Boogaloo-ModJazz-60sBeat-Ska.

Mark Olver & GuestsThe fantastic Bristol comedian returns to North Devon with a great end of festival stand up show. The show will feature several of Mark’s Bristol comedy friends, including Sally-Anne Hayward, who appeared this year at Glastonbury’s Leftfield. Mark has appeared all over the country and worked for the BBC. Others featuring in this not to be missed show will include Matt Ewins, Finley Taylor and Jared Hardy.

Charlie Talbot: “Someone Better Known” (14+)How does it feel to be superfluous in your own life? Do you ever get the sense that someone else might make a better fist of being you, than you do? Stand-up Charlie Talbot achieved a sell-out smash hit as the writer and star of ‘Blow Up! The Credit Crunch Musical’ in 2009 at Edinburgh’s Fringe “A work of genius.”

Danielle WardDanielle is a multi award winning stand-up comedian and writer of sell-out Edinburgh Fringe plays ‘Take-A-Break Tales’ and ‘Psister Psycho’. She is known for her dark and idiosyncratic writing and her stand-up has won her both the BBC New Comedy Award and the Time Out Best Newcomer Award.

Rosie Wilby: “The Further Science of Sex” (16+)A popular comedian from Peckham in Southeast London who’s appeared several times at Edinburgh Fringe, Glastonbury Leftfield, Brighton Fringe, and many others. “An amiable, Kylie-sized pocket-Venus who packs a punch.” “A nice line in whimsy and an appealingly descriptive turn of phrase”.

Scrabble Sunday A full afternoon with 30 scrabble boards, plus pictionary, articulate, battleships, buckaroo and many many packs of cards. What’s the twist? It will all be set to DJs and live music while you can consume afternoon tea and cakes...

Chris Stuckey Band – Live Music Chris has built a formidable reputation as a virtuoso electric guitarist who is uncompromising and passionate in the delivery of music and stage presence. Appearing in Lynton having just returned from his European Tour.
