alok uniyal

Alok Uniyal's art is multihued and figurative. It is rich in color and full of spirit. He employs

vibrant color to unfold his story. There is charm and intrigue in his work as he exposes

romanticism with wit and sensuality. He uses layers of paint to acquire the even surface of the

background in his work. His images are beautiful and meticulously painted which make them

splendid and imaginative works of art.

In the present series he is inspired by the beautification of our city and its adoration by the

inhabitants. The couples are engaged in their lives, their lovemaking, even as the impression of

the roads and maps are shown on their bodies. The bull is the symbol of the city which is

beautiful, powerful and provides shelter to all. He has therefore named the present series –

'Anatomy of a City'.

anand panchal

Anand uses bright and effervescent colors which emanate a lively feeling to the overall outlook of

his work. His backgrounds are enlivened with an abstract play coupled with an amalgamation of

textures and strokes. His strokes and geometrical abbreviations of paper boats and other images

weave the subtle nuances of thoughts, dreams and aspirations of these pious souls.

He uses forms like paper boats, cows, floral clusters and musical instruments. These add to the

metaphorical and allegorical aspects of the work. His works have an essence of fantasy and

vastness due to his conscious use of abstract spaces grants.

In this piece, Anand's treatment of the picture surface is a combination of texture and flat

application, finished rendering and impasto, granular and smooth. The textual renditions of

'mantra' and 'shloka', add to the spiritual aspects, yet they never disturb the flow of the visual

rhythm.

gopal chowdhury

His paintings are concerned with human figures. Mythology, folklore and religious stories

nurtured his childhood. As a natural consequence the contemporary world is projected through

the kaleidoscope of his early memories. His forms are very close to realism yet the given space

seems to be deconstructed in terms of those forms. These may be assets of conventional

vocabulary and is never attempted to render an intense version of distortion. These are conscious

efforts to modify the natural appearances in order to arrive at the intense expressiveness of

realism.

Gopal is neither concerned nor impressed by the fragmentary appreciation of the formal beauty

of a scene. He feels that the central problem in self-expression, in terms of painting, is to arrive

at an estimation of what constituted in his total vision. He feels the need to define the experience

of a time-span to reflect values which are contemporary in art but also perennial and

transcendent in nature. As an ideal spectator, he seeks to state his commitment to interpreting

natural phenomena with a pictorial vocabulary which is the product of a process within the self,

and is intrinsically personal.

gautam mukherjee

Gautam Mukherjee is a sensitive artist. He is sensitive towards his subjects, which mainly revolve

around his family. They are not mere portraits of his family members but are embodiments of the

values a family holds for him. With the birth of his child, recently, his works now reflect the love

and bonding that a child brings into a family.

Gautam's style has evolved over a period of time. His colors have brightened. The characters,

which were somber in his earlier works, have become cheerful. But the focus of his creations has

always been the family with emphasis on the close bonding between them. This is depicted in his

works by the physical contact with each other, be it husband - wife, mother-child, grandparent-

grandchild or between siblings. Gautam's work is characterized by the attention to composition,

background and detailing of the people. The people in his works are dressed in traditional Bengali

attire and jewellery in the backdrop of an environment that is reminiscent of the old Kolkata

havelis. All these motifs are enhanced by Gautam's use of deep and rich hues of color.

samir sarkar

Samir Sarkar has been painting for the past 25 years. He has experimented a lot with forms and

mediums as he evolved as an artist. He combines Impressionism and Surrealism on his canvas.

All his paintings show people wearing headgears with faces painted on them to symbolize the

dualistic nature of people. For the last 15 years, acrylic color has been the main medium for

Samir's paintings. His figures are inspired from Egyptian paintings. Thus the figures are drawn in

the same form. The clothes that they wear have long lines making them look taller and in a way,

Egyptian. Samir draws his subjects from the people he cohabits. They inspire him to produce

more, to experiment and thereby create his own world – the world he wants to share with the rest.

srinivas mouni

Srinivas Mouni deals with subjects which are intrinsically personal. Politics, society and

acceptance of human nature inspire him. His motifs – the text, the birds and human figures can be

interpreted within the purview of society and logic and these also depict mass human behavior.

His perceptions evolve out of his own realizations and from the conflicts within him. He uses

objects which are either of regular importance or are products of the fusion of subconscious

objects related to his thought process.

There is a poetic essence in the objects which he signifies in order to convey his understandings.

In this context, the text acts as a catalyst. Motifs like birds denote the individual which further

acts within the interaction between life and society. There is a curious paradox in the linguistic

approach of the artist where he fuses Realism with Abstract in his works.

steven gandhi

Steven Gandhi's works reflect his perceptions from understanding the society. These evolve from

his realizations and conflicts within his own thoughts. His works use dates which denote they are

either of regular importance or a fusion of imaginative objects related to his thought process.

Steven Gandhi has lived in multiple cultures in several times and places, with changing trends

and these have had profound effect on the artist's existence. There is a complex blend of popular

elements with religious, historical and mundane in his art.

The present series is done in water color on paper. The choice of images like portraits and

animals reciprocate to popular icon or religious symbols. In this silhouette the artist juxtaposes

images of chaotic city and village events. These are viewed as digital camouflage. This visual

interprets the difference between life in city and the same in village.

subrata das

On his canvas Subrata creates poetry through visual imagery as he brings about his philosophy of

personal realizations, sensations and feelings in the language of art. This time his works focus

on the world of Krishna, from its exotic symbolism to the mundane metaphor where Krishna and

the common man unify and share the oneness between them.

Subrata creates the essence of the divine love of Radha-Krishna along with the realization of the

Greater Self of Lord Krishna. Subrata applies minute detailing of strokes, impeccable drawing

skill and use of colors, to recreate and re-live the Lord through the thought process of the

common man. Shri Krishna becomes a symbolic identification for the common man struggling to

accomplish his goal amidst joys and sorrows, love and despair, unification and isolation. The flute

becomes the mark of identity of this struggle with an explicit focus. Radha is the realization of

love, passion and fulfillment of desires as the most coveted partner of this human struggle for

existence.

subrata ghosh

Subrata draws his inspirations from the enlightened heritage of Indian classical art. The subject

of his paintings is the tranquility and divination of the Ajanta figuration and Gupta sculptures. The

floral elements, rhythmic plants and creepers and flying birds decorate the face and figures of his

creation with the message of divine contemplation. Multiple layers of paints are applied on these

paintings in order to bring out the ultimate effect.” Nirvana”, Radha-Krishna, Ganesh Janani and

non-mythological themes are the predominant subjects of his paintings. Subrata Ghosh has

perfected his unique style of layering his canvasses with jewel toned hues and then, painting

faces, be they women, deities or Buddha heads, using various shades of white. The rainbow hues

emerging from his canvas give an ethereal aura to the serenity of his studies.
