Pool: 31/12/2016
Open Water: 28/02/2017
Withdrawal Should an athlete withdraw from the Australian Maccabiah
Games Team following the team announcement, the General
Manager may request that the selectors consider a
replacement, provided the replacement Athlete has met the
performance requirements. If a replacement Athlete is
required, the selectors will make a recommendation to the
Team Selection Committee.
Notes Event Allocations for the Maccabiah Games
The fastest five (5) swimmers per event will be selected to compete in that event.
Event allocations will consider best official times as at 20 March 2017.
Selection is not a guarantee that a swimmer will contest their preferred events.
Swimmers may compete in additional pool swimming events at the Maccabiah, even if the swimmer has not posted a qualifying time for the event.
Event allocations will be at the absolute discretion of the Coaches.
Relay team selections
In most cases, the priority for relay team selection will be to field the fastest team available.
The highest weighting toward results at the Maccabiah will be the priority consideration in relay team selection.
Relay team selections will be made at the total discretion of the coaches.
Amendments
to Selection
Criteria
The Selection Committee may amend these Selection Criteria
at any time at its discretion.

Eligibility and
Nomination

Selection
Process /
Events / Trials
Qualifying Period
Athletes have until 12 February 2017 (TBC) to achieve the qualifying standard.
Times and distances officially recorded in the 2015-16 season may be considered but ‘current form’ (2016-17 season) will be critically assessed in the selection process.
Factors in
Selection
Competition Level: The level and strength of competition where an athlete has competed.
Competition Performance: Current season performance
will be a priority factor in selection. Previous season
performances may be considered.
Athlete Commitment: Athletes may be required to
provide in writing their current training and competition
schedule, to the Selectors. Athletes may be required to
attend a personal interview.
Values: Athletes will be required to demonstrate a
commitment to a positive team culture and the team
values.
The qualifying guidelines are based on the:
Australian Qualifying standards to qualify for the National Track and Field Championships
Results from previous Maccabiah Games
Previous Track and Field qualifying standards set for Maccabiah Games
Times/distances:
Must be achieved at Athletics Australia sanctioned events and signed off by State recognised officials
Must be achieved under ‘legal’ conditions i.e. within the legal wind condition readings.
Ideally athletes will achieve the qualifying standard on at least two occasions and will compete regularly during the 2016-17 track and field season.
There is limited discretion in the selection process with respect to qualifying times and distances.
Coaching:
It is strongly advised that team members have their own coaches. Training programs and liaison with athlete’s coaches will be taken into consideration for team selection.
2017 AUS Maccabiah Team Athlete Selection Criteria_2016 08 23 Page 71 of 79
Registration
All selected athletes must be registered with the state’s sports body (e.g. Athletics Victoria, Athletics NSW, WA Athletics etc) and be a member of a state Maccabi club or join the state Maccabi organisation.
Performance
Requirements
Refer to information and tables below.
Requirement to
Maintain
Fitness
All Athletes must be in full training and demonstrate an uncompromised commitment to preparation for peak performance at the Games;
Develop in conjunction with their home/club coach an
individual athlete plan;
An Athlete may be requested to undertake specific
performance assessments to demonstrate that they are
prepared to compete at peak performance levels at the
event. This request will be at the total discretion of the
relevant Team Coach (or Team Captain or Team Manager
where a sport does not have a Coach). If it is of the view
that the Athlete is not or will not be in a state of
preparation for peak performance at the Games, then an
agreed action plan will be developed to support and
address the identified concerns. If the participation of the
Athlete is not in the best interest of the team, then the
Team Coach together with the Team Selectors will make a
recommendation to the Team Selection Committee.
Team
Commitment
All Athletes will be required to:
Comply with the Australian Maccabiah Team Agreement and all associated Policies;
Attend and participate in all team activities designated by the General Manager, Team Manager and Coach including but not limited to; training, competition, workshops, information sessions, team building and fundraising.
Team Size and
Rankings
Generally, up to three athletes may be selected per event. In
the case of more than three athletes qualifying for an event,
there may have to be a special ‘run off’ (or trial competition)
organised prior to final selection. For relay teams it is hoped
that five or six athletes may be selected as long as qualifying
standards have been reached.
The strongest athletes will be selected in the following
categories:
Open Men
Open Women
Junior Boys (1999-2002)

notified by the team manager. The Athlete shall be
provided the reason for non-selection.

Law
Finalisation of
Selections
