MAGAZINE CONTENTS PAGE DECONSTRUCTION

Page 2: Magazine contents page deconstruction

The masthead on this contents page is informal as they say ‘inside this mag’ instead of ‘inside this magazine’. This is because it is a magazine for teenagers, and using informal words will attract more buyers.

The contents page images are images/ storylines which are included in the magazine. They have used these as it will help to attract more readers as younger readers are more attracted to pictures more than words. They have used images of clothing as it will help more girl readers.

The coverlines are separated into different sections. They have sections like ‘all about me’ and ‘celebs & gossip’. This will help to attract some readers as they will find it easier to find their favourite story line.

The colour scheme is pink and yellow. They have used this colour scheme as they are trying to attract young readers and bright colours will help.

The audience for this magazine is young teenage girls. I know this because the colours are in yellow and pink which I would class as a girlie colour. Also the images are of shopping and attractive singers which again will also attract the young female population.

The masthead on this contents page is placed on the left hand side as that’s where the readers will look last. It is a basic masthead as it is in plain black writing and only says ‘inside NME’

The colour scheme for this contents page is black, grey and red. This is a very sophisticated colour scheme and shows that the magazine is aimed at adults. The colour scheme also includes the colour red as the title of the magazine ‘NME’ is in the colour red.

The cover lines are separated inside this magazine contents page. This is because some readers will buy the magazine for the ‘band list’ section but some readers will buy the magazine for the ‘regulars’ section. This will help the readers find their article quickly and mean that they don’t need to spend loads of time looking through the whole contents page to find it.

There is only one image used on this contents page. This is because the magazine is for adults therefore they wouldn’t want to read it if it looked childish and full of images.

The audience for this magazine is adults about 30+. I know this because of the colour scheme and the way the contents page is layed out.

The main image for this contents page takes up most of the page. This will be because Adele in this case, will be the main cover story.

The cover lines for this contents page are separated into different sections. This is because it helps the reader to find their favourite artist or

storyline quicker.

The masthead for this contents page is very plain and boring. It is placed on the left hand side as that is where the reader will look last and therefore the reader will not be put off buying the magazine by its plain content page masthead.

The colour scheme for this content page is sophisticated. This is because the magazine is for adults and therefore they have to have ‘older’ colour and plain colours so the readers will buy the magazine.

The audience for this magazine is for adults aged 25+. I know this because the colour scheme is in sophisticated colours so they audience doesn’t get out off buying the magazine. Also the lay out of the magazine is also very sophisticated.

Overall thought • Overall I think that the magazine contents page design I

will follow the most will be the ‘Top of the pops’. This is because I plan to do my magazine with the target audience of 14 younger in mind. Therefore the magazine which will appeal the most to this target audience is this magazine as it has bright colours and is ‘childish’.
