History and Global Presence
WOM has recently added the Compact Cutting Device (CCD) to their growing list of products. The CCD is an apparatus that allows operators to achieve the same results as a BOP without the bulkiness and attention needed for that. It is used in offshore and/or high-pressure applications where cutting of the well string is required without leaving a snag. The CCD is composed of equipment with opposing horizontal hydraulically actuated gate valves made to shear and seal below coiled tubing, drill pipe, and wire line of a given specification in the wellbore. It can be easily transported and installed using cheaper methods, reducing overall time and costs for subsea projects.

New Products
The engineering team at WOM India has created a new technology to overcome the extensive process required for successful repair and refurbishment of U type Ram Blowout Preventers, Replaceable Seat Seal Assembly. Normally the BOP must be removed from the rig for repair and refurbishment. With Replaceable Seat Seal Assembly technology, the BOP can be operated on while on the rig, reducing service time, and ensuring a continued high level of performance. Four parts, top, bottom, left, and right inserts, are put in place with methods that do not require welding. The top insert is attached with a socket head screw set and supported by the side and bottom inserts. Because welding is not involved, the risk of cracks developing during repairs and refurbishments is avoided.

WOM’s Houston offices have undergone a couple of changes for the better in 2017. At headquarters, two outdoor picnic areas were added to the property offering our employees quiet, shaded areas to use for lunch, relaxation, or brainstorming. Benches were installed along the edges of the soccer field to accommodate tired players. Fountains were placed on both sides of the main entrance doors
At the WOM BOP office, concrete was poured to increase parking and storage capacity. There is now an additional 16,500 square feet concrete slab for storage of raw materials and finished goods, and an extra 9,583 square feet for employee parking. A 2,312-square foot ditch was also paved to improve drainage in the area, which is important in Houston.

Offshore Europe in Aberdeen, Scotland has provided many successful years for WOM and their sales teams. For 2017, it was no different. WOM set the tone with their outstanding offshore display, making them one of the few companies who brought equipment for individuals to see in person. WOM’s BOP display with SP-Tandem Boosters caught the eye of many attendees and generated meaningful prospects. Within the 76.5 square meter booth, WOM showcased their compact wellhead, BOP, controls panel, and many more.

ADIPEC has proven itself to be one of the most influential trade shows in the Middle East. WOM and MTC impressed many guests with their 13” 10K BOP stack that resembled the U.A.E flag. The BOP stack became the center of attention and a selfie point for a majority of visitors. The 90-sq. meter booth also displayed their Gate Valve with Torque Reducer, Triplex Pump Package, Wellhead and Debris Catcher. WOM received positive feedback and interest from companies such as ADNOC Drilling Team, ENAFOR, Sonatrach, Schlumberger, EXPRO, Halliburton, SGS and more.

The second annual Offshore Mexico Congress was a first for WOM, and provided a great branding opportunity and exposure to operators in Mexico. WOM was granted a presentation slot which gave us a chance to showcase our latest innovations in offshore equipment, like the compact cutting device, and the replaceable seat seal assembly for the U-type ram BOP. After the Offshore Mexico Congress, WOM also attended a professional meeting event, Encuentro Internacional de Energia Mexico (EIEM). WOM attended short meetings with several prospective customers including Pemex, Diavaz, Worley Parsons, and Petrobal.

In Memory OfGrady Smith
“Very few might know; but Grady taught me drafting techniques using the manual drafting board with a right-angle ruler and a cool pencil with an electric eraser, which I thought was the coolest thing I’ve seen at WOM. I was hardly
13 years old. By 15, Grady and I would work side by side as I made auto cad drawings of gates, seats and simpler parts while he worked on larger complicated manifolds. He was a teacher, a mentor, and even babysitter because for us Puranik siblings, WOM was our go-to day care center! Till date, my biggest mystery would be “what tune is this guy
humming for the past two hours, and how long is that tooth pick going to last? Maybe the fumes from the blueprint machine putting out a strong Ammonia smell was causing that!” He taught me how to use that blueprint machine, work the computer software, and use the most state of the art plotter (Printing) Machine that blew me away every
time it printed what was on the screen onto giant pieces of paper that we rarely come across these days. He was also instrumental in guiding me to reverse engineer the high/low actuator pilots and velocity check that sit on our SSVs
(Surface Safety Valves) that went into full production in 1999. He didn’t say much, but whenever he mumbled a few words (always a toothpick in mouth), they were direct, and made a lot of common sense clear as day.
What I appreciated the most was, Boss’s son or not, Grady always set me straight if he thought I was acting up, which ended up being some very valuable lessons I will forever carry. He would literally say “I don’t care if you’re Sam’s son…you will respect what task you have in front of you, and make sure it’s finished before you go fool around somewhere. You know, Chetna will be happy to watch you…” I immediately put on my game face as (Some seasoned folks know)
hanging out with Chetna Patel was not exactly my idea of a good time hahaha.
I’ve known Grady for as long as I can remember and there are countless memories. He will be missed always and will remain one of the WOM legends of all time.”

2017: Was it a tough year? The answer is Yes. There is nothing that can soften the blow to the company and its people that we have tried our best to protect regardless of any and all curve balls that have been tossed our way. WOM started with 5 people that worked 18 to 20 hour days, sometimes without a couple months pay, with the hope that their hard work will bring them a better future for their families and themselves. Today we stand STRONG even though the Oil and Gas Industry has tried to choke the life out of us. However - this is a family of dedicated people. We will carry on, we will prove that we belong, among the world’s best, among the world’s greatest. I would like to personally thank each and every soul that has given their blood, sweat and tears to show up and perform day in and day out to keep WOM afloat even with all their personal challenges... to keep us United, to Keep us among the Top players in this business. Cheers and let 2018 bring all of us a new light to our continued efforts to make us PROUD, and let others say out LOUD.... WOM is where you find excellence, humility, reliability, and the true definition that the PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING!
