News From Ms. Tindalls Class
Students are now completing the writing cycle for their information reports. We will go through the final
stages of revision, getting feedback and editing. Students will revise for sentence fluency, organizationand word choice. For sentence fluency we are looking for a variety of sentence beginnings and lengths.
For word choice we are looking for specific vocabulary related to the topic. For example, when talking
about cows you would use the word hoof not foot. In terms of organization we are checking that each
section is arranged with: a topic sentence to introduce the section; the body to support the topic facts
and explanations or examples and; the conclusion to sum up the main points - could be the topic sentencerestated in different words or include a thought on the topic. For example:
Have you ever wondered where pandas live? (topic) They live in cold places. Highaltitude mountains in China are places where pandas can be found. They like thesnow and bamboo forests. (body) I would like to visit China one day to see a
panda. (conclusion)Soon well begin a new unit called Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. We will be looking at how the choices we
make impact the environment. You can support this unit by talking with your child about the various
choices you make in your home and how this effects the environment. What are you currently doing that
has a positive impact (or reduces your impact) and what are some things you could change?
There is a lot of information out there and it changes constantly. Your children will come home with lotsof questions. Please check out our Social Studies page on our blog for some short videos and adult
resources so that you are prepared!
In partnership, Ms. Tindall
