Ministryjoboffer:ExecutiveDirectorandChaplainWithourcurrentExecutiveDirectorandChaplainretiringintheSpringof2019,TheMaritimeBethelatSavannah(MBS)isseekingtoappointanewExecutiveDirectorandChaplaininApril2019.TheMaritimeBethelatSavannahisafaith-based,ecumenical501(c)(3)non-profitministryservingthethousandsofinternationalandAmericanseafarersarrivinginthePortofSavannaheachyear.Supportedbyateamofdedicatedvolunteers,theMBSrunsahospitalitycenterforseafarersinGardenCityandafleetofvansforaship-visitingprogramtoshipsthroughoutthePortofSavannah.Lifeatseaformonthsatatimeissociallyisolatingandwantingtoleaveyourshipinaforeignportcanbeadifficult,costlyexperience.Ourportministryprovidesvisitingseafarerslocaltransportationandafewhoursofrelaxationawayfromtheship,helpsthemcontacttheirfamilies,andoffersthemprayerandpastoralsupport.MBSisoneofmorethan400suchseafarers’missionsinportsworldwide.AsagrowingmissioninSavannah,theidealcandidateasExecutiveDirectorandChaplainwouldfocusonthedevelopmentofthemissioninitsfinancialresources,butalsoitsabilitytoministertoseafarers.Thecandidatewouldbepassionateabouttheworkandserveasthepublicfaceoftheministry.Positiondescription:
- SupervisionofallministryprogramsofTheMaritimeBethelatSavannah,includingshipvisiting,volunteers,vehicles,andtheseafarers’centerbuilding;
- ManagementofalloutreachandfundraisingeffortsofMBS,includingorganizationofannualfundraisingevents,regularcommunicationwithdonorsandministrypartners,presentationsaboutMBStosupportingchurchesorotherorganizations,andparticipationatothereventsintheSavannahareathatstrengthentheministryortheresourcesoftheministry;
- Serveonedayaweekasshipvisitortoprovidepastoralcareandhumanitariansupport,worshipuponrequest,telecommunicationssupport,andtransportationofseafarerstotheMBShospitalitycenterandnearbyshoppingvenues;
- Liaisewithpartnerministriesorindividualsinindustry,governmentorlabortorespondtoseafarerproblems,asneeded;
- ActivelyparticipateinNorthAmericanandworldwidenetworksofseafarers’ministryproviders;
- AssistMBSboardpresidentinorganizationofboardmeetings;- Activeencouragementofprayerandspiritualfellowshipforboard,
volunteers,andstaffRequirementsinclude:
- Minimum5yearsmanagementorministryexperienceinachurchornon-profit;
- MinimumaBachelor’sdegree;- OrdinationinaProtestantdenomination;- Strongfundraisinganddonormanagementskillsandexperience;- Strongadministrativeandorganizationalskills;- Abilitytoworkwithandservethosefromdiversecultures,backgroundsand
religions;- Proficiency in computer applications (Word) and Internet tools (Email,
Facebook,Skype)isessential;- Editorialexperiencewithprintoronlinenewslettersorpublicationsisa
plus;- Willingnesstoworkoutsideofregularhourswhenrequired;- Knowledge of the maritime world or previous sea-going experience is
advantageous;- DriverslicenseandwillingnesstodriveMBSvanrequired;- Ability to qualify for a TWIC card to enter port facilities required

- AbilitytoworkeffectivelyinaChristianecumenicalsettingisessential;- Proficiency in foreign languages used by large numbers of seafarers is an
