NEWSLETTER No. 33 25th October 2018
Dear Parents, Friends and Students
On Friday we celebrate Matthew Gibney Day, the patron
of our school. Matthew Gibney was the third Bishop of
Perth and was influential in setting up Catholic Education
in WA. One of his biggest contributions was purchasing
land in order to build schools. Many of our ‘older’ Catholic
schools are built on sites that were purchased by Bishop
Gibney. Bishop Gibney was also a man of action. He
was not one to sit around and wait for things to happen.
He had courage in his convictions and was prepared to
make the difficult decisions if he thought it was in the best
interest of the Catholic community. Our day will begin
with a Mass at 9:00am in the undercover area. Father
Francis will lead us in this celebration and Deacon Trevor
will assist him. Following the Mass, we will have the
traditional cutting of Bishop Gibney’s birthday cake. After
recess the students will participate in a tabloid sport
rotation with the Year 6 students taking leadership in this.
It is during this time that the school will hold its ‘Open
Day’, with tours taking place at regular intervals. The
tours will be led by some of our Year 6 students. The day
will conclude with our Grandparents Afternoon Tea and
concert. The students have been working very hard on
their items and it should be a very entertaining afternoon.
We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible
some time throughout the day.
Earlier this week our Year 1 and 3 students went on an
excursion to the Art Gallery of Western Australia. Thank
you to Ms Martinz and Miss Zurzolo for organising this
excursion.
And may your hearts be fully committed to the LORD our God, to live by his decrees and
obey his commands, as at this time.”
(1 Kings 8:61)
Edudance lessons are now in full swing in preparation for
our end of year concert. A reminder to parents that our
concert will take place on Friday 30th November. All are
invited to come along and enjoy this very entertaining
evening. Specific details will be sent home closer to the
date.
I would like to remind families that our Annual General
Community meeting will take place on Wednesday 21st
November. It will begin at 7:00pm and it will be held in
the school library. All parents and members of our
community are invited to attend. The community meeting
is divided into two parts. The first involves reports from
the School Board Chairperson, the School Board
Treasurer and the School Principal. Following that the
Parents and Friends Association will hold their meeting.
After hearing reports from the President and the
Treasurer, an election of office bearers will take place. It
is important that as many families as possible are
represented at this meeting as it will not only give a
summary of the year that has passed but also an
indication of what the school’s direction will be in 2019.
Following the meeting, a light supper will be held.
On Thursday November 1, the students will join with the
Parish to celebrate the Feast of All Saints. The Mass will
be held in the Church and it will begin at 9:30am. All
parents and members of our community are invited to join
with us.

YEAR 2 NEWS
The children are looking forward to entertaining you
tomorrow during the Matthew Gibney Day concert. We
have also been busy practising for our assembly on
Friday 2/11/18.
We have been looking at toys from the past. If you have
any toys or objects from the past, we would love to see
them! We have also been reading a very interesting book
about Australian children and learning about life in the
past.
We have also been very fortunate to have had Marcus, a
Year 12 student, complete, a work placement with us.
The children have enjoyed working with Marcus. We wish
Marcus all the best for his future studies.
Just a reminder that the Toy activity that was set for
homework last week is due tomorrow. The children will
present their findings during their news next week. A new
excursion note for Kings Park was sent home on Monday.
If you did not receive a new note, please let me know.

YEAR 3 NEWS
Year Three had a great time on their excursion to the city with the Year One class. We learnt about Ned Kelly through
the Sidney Nolan exhibition at the Art Gallery and then we studied images, articles and artefacts in the State Library that
revealed how much King’s Park, our beaches, the Swan River, the Perth Zoo and the Royal Show have changed over
time in our wonderful city. We also had enough time to have a wander along the streets in the city and admire the
amazing artwork on our city walls and analyse interesting sculptures. Students were finally set the task to create their
own artwork piece that they would like to see in our city one day.
