Greetings, Sisters and Brothers in Christ Jesus.
Christ is risen! He is risen, indeed. Alleluia! Alleluia!
Yes, Christ is risen: in you, in me and in those around us. The question is, does anyone else know it?
There’s nothing like a little sun(Son)shine to surface sleeping optimism in the face of worldly pessimism, to strengthen sagging hope for our lives and the world, to stir silent passion for the work of God, to stir stagnant action. (Oh, and can you believe how quickly plants respond to the sun?)
I am optimistic about the future because we have the very heart of Christ within us to affect positive change around us so that all people can live in peace and have enough to eat, a place to live, a job that brings satisfaction as well as an income.
I have hope for our lives and the world because there are many, many caring and loving people who long to be a part of bringing the Realm of God into (at least) our little corner of the world. (Hmmm, I’m seeing concentric circles fanning out from the fount of Christ’s love.)
I have a passion for the lost, lonely, least among us who need a gentle touch of Christ’s welcome and acceptance.
And, there is something (Holy Spirit) within me that prods me to action to bring wholeness where there is brokenness.
How all this works out is a process of living and learning and BELIEVING that because Christ is our leader, model, instructor, strengthener, and all those other things we focus on in whatever we’re doing, wherever we are.

Pastor’s Message
Ascension Day

So, what are you optimistic about? How healthy is your hope? What are you passionate about (poverty, justice, peace, children, etc.?) What actions would you like to take? Do you know others who share your passion for God’s creation? Are you willing to open yourself to the working of the Holy Spirit and share your ideas, passions, hopes, dreams, and all like that, with others? Are you grave enough in Christ, to put yourself on the line to suggest, lead, support those passions, hopes, dreams, actions even though “We/I’ve never done it that way before,” or, maybe you don’t think others would join you?
Good questions to ask as we continue to seek and listen for those things that would spread the Gospel in one way or another. We call this ‘doing ministry’, being God’s hands doing God’s work.
Good questions especially as we prepare to celebrate the loosing of the Holy Spirit upon the whole world on Pentecost Sunday at the end of the month. (Wear RED, bring red geraniums, be open, cuz you never know how the Spirit will move. But we DO know that whatever the movement is, it will be for good, and for all.
So, Happy Easter HAPPY Spring (and weeding), don’t forget the sunscreen, show up in church, invite a friend (give them a ride even), keep the faith, praise the Lord, bless someone with an encouraging word. In other words, continue doing your job as Christ followers.
Oh, and celebrate with us on Pentecost Sunday as we baptize and confirm Peyton Kenny. He has worked hard and long and is welcomed as a member of the Body of Christ (by baptism), and a member of Faith Lutheran Church (by confirmation).
May God continue to bless you with all the things you need,
Your sister in Christ Jesus, Pr Dawn
Tongues of Fire --- Reminiscent of the Pentecost account in Acts 2, when “tongues of fire” rested on the disciples’ heads as the Holy Spirit birthed the church, images of flame symbolize the Spirit. Sometimes a tongue of fire is paired with a dove and set on a red background --- other symbols of the Holy Spirit. Fire may also indicate spiritual fervor and zeal in a Christian’s life.

Planned giving is all about giving for the long term. Endowment funds are invested to help ensure that the church can continue its mission and ministry beyond our lifetimes. When we make a planned gift, we are giving to something that will continue in perpetuity. Part of the sense of satisfaction that comes from making a planned gift lies in the knowledge that we can make a lasting impact; we can leave a legacy for generations yet to come.
Most church members think of giving in terms of plate offerings. Typically they make a pledge to a stewardship or capital campaign based on anticipated annual income. By contrast, a planned gift typically comes from accumulated assets rather than annual income. A planned gift can be a once-in-a-lifetime gift. In many cases, it may require the assistance of an attorney or other professional financial advisor.
Planned gifts can be as varied as the interests of the donor. They can include such items as stocks and bonds or other appreciated securities, insurance policies, retirement plans, art or antique collections, real estate or other assets. The gift may be made through such vehicles as trusts, charitable gift annuities, a donor advised fund or a bequest in a will.
Current members of our Endowment Committee are as follows: Karen Glenn, Chairperson; Bonnie Hensley, Secretary; John Berg, Treasurer; Mary Sabatka, and Jim Preston.
We are developing a program to provide information and workshops to help everyone understand what the Mission Endowment is all about, and how to become involved. We will continue to put articles in the Faith at Work, bulletins, and on our website: www.faithalbany.org

THANK YOU Luther House Summer Party
“INTO THE WILD” Extravaganza and Summer Party
Sunday, June 3
The annual Luther House friends-and-fundraising event will be held on Sunday, June 3, at the Benton County Fairgrounds in Corvallis. As in years past, we’ll emphasize, celebrate, and have activities that honor God’s creation while re-connecting friends of campus ministry and raising much needed funds for our work on campus.
What should you expect?
Mid-afternoon ‘earth friendly’ activities for all ages beginning and ending at the fairgrounds, catered picnic supper with a vegetarian option, silent and oral auctions, and a preview of the architectural drawings for a proposed Luther House makeover. No doubt there will be music and some other surprises too.
Tickets will sell for $10/adults, $5/children and youth, with a $25 maximum per household. Come prepared to bid on exciting and usable auction items. All proceeds will benefit Luther House outreach to students, faculty and university staff.
More details and registration information will be available by lte April or early May. Like us on Facebook at Luthr House Campus Ministry or follow us at http://luther-house.org for most current updats. For now, eserve the date and plan to join us. Questions may be directed to Luther House at 541-753-

Seeking Assistants
This group will meet March 12th and 26th, the second and fourth Monday from 1 to 5 in the afternoon. The group will decide after the first date, when to meet regularly and how often. The group is open to anyone. Invite a friend or come alone—either way you are welcome. Tea and coffee will be available.
This is something new! It is an opportunity for those who wish to come together for a few minutes or a few hours to work on a project, visit, have coffee or tea or do whatever it is you would like to do. Just bring along your project and enjoy the fellowship. If you have a project you want help with, please contact Peggy Preston 541 926 2697 ([email protected]) so arrangements may be made to have needed materials available or to be sure someone knows how to provide the help will be there. There is also the chance that we may be learning together and that is okay too but it helps to know in advance so we can have the needed information available.
Several have requested an opportunity to just get together and spend time together. We will try this out for a while and see what grows from it. Suggestions on what can be done during this time so far are as follows:
• Learn a new skill such as knitting, or crocheting.
• Work on a bead project.
• Work on a project for this year’s Bazaar.
• Paint a picture while listening and visiting with others.
• Make a prayer shawl (will take more than one session).
• Work on a project that has been waiting to get done.
• Just come and see what is going on.
• Make a batch of cookies or try a new recipe.
There will be a sign up sheet available but even if you are not signed up it is okay to drop in.
