As you may know, all staff in Elementary Schools across Ontario are in a Work-
to-Rule campaign. The TDSB has placed a notice to all parents on their website;
go to www.tdsb.on.ca for more information. While all students continue to re-
ceive their curriculum program, it is not business as usual.
All reorganization is now complete and students are settling into routines in their
respective classes. We say goodbye to Mr. Shepherd and Ms. Young who are
moving on to other schools or roles in the Board. At the same time we welcome
Ms. Paschalidis to Grade 3 and Ms. Barbieri to Grade 1.
On Wednesday, September 23, we had over 30 parents attend our School Adviso-
ry Council (SAC) meeting. We would like to thank our past SAC executive for
their commitment and dedication last year, particularly our out-going co-chairs:
Kash Aquil and Ravi Kumar. We would like to congratulate our newly elected
(SAC) made up of parents from our school community. Your new co-chairs for
this year are Jeff Kwong and Afsaneh Shahsavar. Parents are welcome to attend
our next meeting on Wednesday, October 21 at 6:30 p.m. in our staff room.
Communication is a key component to any successful school year. Visit our
school website to review SAC meeting minutes, school newsletters and other up-
dates throughout our school year http://schools.tdsb.on.ca/mckee. Any family
who wishes to purchase insurance for students can voluntarily do so at
www.insuremykids.com This is purely voluntary and may assist in the event of
any accident throughout the school year. There is a cost to this insurance.
Parking and traffic will continue to be a year-long issue for families travelling
around our community, especially during morning drop off and afternoon pick-up.
Please be prepared and leave plenty of time to reach your destination. Obey the
traffic laws as we will receive visits from police throughout the year. A reminder
that our parking lot and bus loop are not to be used for parking and leaving your
car unattended.

Fundraising Events
Upcoming Fundraising events
Throughout our school year, our SAC, with the help of parent volunteers plan some exciting events for our stu-
dents to raise funds for our school. In the past, SAC has enriched the lives of students by paying for many
events and enhanced technology. A small example of past supporting items include: Prologue Theatre Perfor-
mances, Scientist in the School, School Bus costs for field trips, safety vests, SmartBoards, iPAD covers, etc.
The following fundraising events will be happening in the coming weeks:
Pizza Lunches – The McKee School Advisory Council has decided to change the format of our Pizza Lunches
this year. On every second Thursday beginning October 8, students from Kindergarten to Grade 5 who have
pre-ordered, will be enjoying cheese pizza for their lunch. Forms were sent home two weeks ago. If you
missed out, please pick up a pink order form from the office and submit your order for future lunches. If you
are interested in volunteering on Pizza Lunch days, please call our office and provide your contact infor-
mation. We can always use extra hands to help on these days.
Hot Lunches – On alternating Thursdays from Pizza Lunch, hot lunches from the Lunch Lady are available
for order online. This is another service the council has provided for our community. Please see the Lunch La-
dy insert on the last page of our newsletter.
School Assemblies
Each month, our school gathers to recognize the month’s Character Trait and hand out
our McKee Bee’s. One representative per class receives a bee. A McKee bee is a stu-
dent who contributes to the positive culture of McKee Public School with a specific
action or ongoing positive attitude or behavior. Check out the picture on the last page
to see September’s “Respect” recipients. Parents are always welcome to attend our
monthly assemblies. Our next assembly will be held on October 23rd where we will
recognize our “Responsibility” recipients.
Punctuality Matters
Supervision in our playground begins at 8:30 a.m. Our first bell rings at 8:40 a.m., when doors open to allow
students to enter our school building. A second bell rings at 8:45 a.m. when students are expected in their
classrooms and be ready for morning announcements and O Canada. After 8:45 a.m. stu-
dents can only enter through our main doors and will be considered late. Students who arrive
late to school must report to the office and wait until morning announcements are complete
before signing in to receive a late slip. This process can take up to 30 minutes depending on
the number of students signing in late. Prompt attendance at school is essential to max-
imize instructional time and to teach children the importance of punctuality and responsibil-
ity. Punctuality is a life long skill and we hope you can share this goal with your family.
Lost and Found
Our school cleans out the Lost and Found area every six weeks. Parents are encouraged to label as many per-
sonal belongings as possible, i.e., jackets, lunch containers, etc. Our Lost and Found area is in our front foyer
by our showcase.

Electronic Newsletter
This newsletter is being sent via email. We will
be distributing our newsletter solely via the email
addresses the students provided to us in Septem-
ber. If you have not sent us an email address,
please have your child give it to the main office
before the end of October. If you do not have an
email address, you will still be able to view each
month’s copy of the newsletter on our school
website at http://schools.tdsb.on.ca/mckee. A
limited number of hard copies of the newsletter
will be available in our main office.
Here are the recipients from our September bee recognition assembly
for RESPECT. While every class selects one recipient, during our assem-
bly in September we called out Grade 1,3 and 5 recipients. In October
we will call our Kindergarten, Grade 2 and 4. Congratulations!
