Stage Carrier vs Contract Carriage
Stage Carriage Contract Carriage
The Routes, number of trips, trip timings, number of stoppages are fixed Requires a permit from transport authorities Passengers flow in and out, high no. of standees, Overload in peak hours, Bus used rigorously - ‘abused’. Buses compete with each other (overtake, ‘steal’ passengers) Fares collected DIRECTLY from passengers. Fare structure in the range of 35~45 paise/km Bus traverses a distance of more than 300 Km per day. City suburbs (Moffusil) to heart of City
Owner decides all depending upon Contract Does not require Permit (PSV category registration) Hardly any overloading, conditions much less rigorous Fixed Monthly contract amount from the hirer (School, Corporate, Hotel) Primarily within city limits, distances to the tune of 100 to 150 Km / day
13
…..Hence the implications
Stage Carriage Contract Carriage
The profit Model for Bus operator is driven by R E V E N U E S Highly sensitive to passenger carrying capacity, occupancy ratio, Trip cuts Business is unpredictable, depends on occupancy. Higher risk higher returns Tendency to overload passengers. ‘Abuse’ vehicle and replace in 3 to 4 years.
Profit model for bus owner is driven by C O S T S Highly sensitive to KMPL, Tyre life, Maintenance Costs, acquisition costs, financing & EMI Business is predictable. Lower returns, lower risk Disincentive to overload. Actual earnings begin after vehicle has been ‘freed’ from EMI (3 to 4 years). Want to run for at least 7 years
