It's an honor to serve as your Commodore for the 61st season of Allen Harbor Yacht Club. This is a job that I take very seriously, as the club has been a longstanding and meaningful part of my life. I was a junior mem-ber here and my brother Walter and I learned to sail in the AHYC fleet. Jennifer and I joined as full members at 26 years old. Our children, Eliza-beth and Drew, grew up volunteering on behalf of the club. These are memories we will always cherish.
My vision of the Club is an institution that reveres tradition to inform the future. We have learned much over the 61 years of Club experience, and I look to use that knowledge to inform the way we move forward. In our increasingly electronic age, I plan to explore an integrated club-management software system to drive our website, communications, reservations, finance, and inventory. My goal is to build and enrich member relationships, increase revenue, and decrease costs.
As a Yacht Club, boating is at the core of our identity. I am a passionate supporter of our sailing program and encourage all families to take part of our relationship with West Dennis Yacht Club’s sailing program, with costs subsidized by the Club. I look forward to the day that the program returns to our own harbor.
Going through the flags has reinforced for me just how special our com-munity really is, and how fortunate we are to be among the AHYC fami-ly. I will do all that I can to foster a social season where members and their children can join friends for enriching recreation, refreshment, and family fun.

We’ve had a great season of events at the Club. Since last September, we’ve
held 37 functions – an average of over 3 per month. Thirty-two were a
variety of paid dinner dances and mini-suppers and featured many seasonal
favorites and some new concepts. The remaining 5 events were
complimentary and included the Volunteer Cocktail Party, Children’s
Christmas Party, Fourth of July Celebration, Blessing of the Fleet and the
Annual Dock Party. Add to the roster the number of private functions held by members and it becomes
even clearer that club is an active center of the Club’s social community.
Attendance at the paid functions was impressive. We saw an average attendance of 90 people at a cost of
$23 per event. After paying for help, sales tax and expenses for each function, we’ve made on average
approximately $250 per event to keep us in the black -- and this doesn’t even include bar sales! This
profitability was due to the incredible turnout of volunteers -- from Event Chairs to Committees -- that
made it possible for us to hire outside catering for only one major dinner … New Year’s Eve. A huge
thank you to over 20 different members that hosted events and countless volunteers who took
reservations, worked in the kitchen, and set up and decorated the club throughout the year. A special
thank you to Pete Moynagh who, in addition to his other responsibilities, was a constant culinary force in
the kitchen.
Thank you for all of your efforts in making AHYC the best club on Cape Cod!

It is hard to believe that the summer of 2013 has come and gone. It was a
busy summer for the Juniors and I truly appreciate all of the positive feed-
back that I received from the parents and grandparents on the Fourth of July
festivities and on the Friday night activities. Special thanks to Pete Moynagh
and his staff, to Junior Commodores Laine Kotoski and Seamus Clair and to
Drew Mason for their dedication and hard work this summer....it was a real
pleasure working with all of you!! Moving forward in my new role handling the care, maintenance and man-
agement of the club house and grounds a few things have been brought to my attention. The flower boxes on
the upper deck, storage shed and electric shed are in full bloom. In addition I am looking at a few other projects
that include some parking lot improvement, the landscaping (hedges) along Lower County Road, installing a
weather station at the club, purchasing some new linens and the painting and
cleaning out of the electric shed located in the parking lot. I will do my best to address each of these issues, as
well as other matters, for the betterment of the club. I look forward to working with Andrew, Terry, Michelle,
The Board of Directors and the membership to continue to make Allen Harbor Yacht Club the special place
that it is!! I wish everyone a wonderful Fall season.

Rear Commodore—Michelle Fisler I would like to thank the leadership of Allen Harbor Yacht Club for selecting me to serve as Flag Officer. I
consider it a great honor and will bring my highest energy and expertise to the role.

Mooring Line, and overseeing the children’s program. Check your mailboxes soon for the first issue of the year. I
also produce the annual roster and encourage you to visit the website to update your personal information so you
are accurately represented in the roster. Alternatively, you can use the paper form included in your annual dues
mailing. I look forward to overseeing the Junior Commodores, Laine Kotoski and Seamus Claire and their
leadership throughout the coming year.
Finally, I am happy to welcome the appointment of Julie Gillis as Director of the Children’s Program. Julie has
extensive experience in event planning and she and her family will bring amazing new energy to this role.

What’s Up, Dock? By Glenn Crafts, Dockmaster
By now, all boat owners should have received your boat storage contracts. Please
call me at 508-246-5555 to make arrangements to decommission your boat.
The town of Harwich is closing the entrance to Allen Harbor for additional dredg-
ing beginning November 15th for approximately two weeks. All boats must be off
the docks by November 15th. All shrink-wrapped vessels must be clearly labeled
with your name so I can be in contact with you should issues arise.
Please note: Pressure washing of hull bottoms is strictly prohibited on AHYC premises.

moment. Every weekend we looked forward to seeing familiar faces, both young
and old. Thank you to Deirdre Kelleher for her tireless effort heading the Junior’s
program this summer. We look forward to a successful Christmas party.

the Allen Harbor family:
Former Commodore Ted H. Vrountas passed away on Friday, January 18, 2013, at home

club to Mary and the Vrountas family.

friend, and pillar of the church passed away on July 7, 2013. Joe brought incredible wisdom

elegance will be sorely missed. We send our heartfelt condolences to Carolyn and the
O’Leary family.

It is hard to believe the summer season is coming to a close. To
me it feels like it has been the shortest summer in history. It
has been a fun summer with some new functions such as,
cocktail parties, wine tasting as well as some old favorites like
Steak night and of course TJ Johnson and Joe McParland Jr
and family putting on their annual gourmet dinner. We had a
great Fourth of July cookout with a great grill team, on a
beautiful day with many activity’s that were put on by the
juniors.
The facility looks great with many new updates; the staff has
worked very hard all summer and did a great job. The junior
program also had a great season. With some new activities on Friday night, the children really look
forward in coming to the club. It was unfortunate to have two rained out on the Friday nights.
I am very lucky to have served as Commodore with such a great team of Flag Officers working behind
the scenes organizing, scheduling and delivering Thank you, Andrew, Terry and Deirdre.
I would like to thank the Harbor Committee on finally getting the dredge work completed .This project
took several years with many volunteers spending hundreds of man hours working on this project. The
Finance Committee for all of there hard work with the budget.
And of course for all of the members that does so much for the club and asks for nothing in return. I have
been honored to have been your Commodore over this past year, Thank You Barbara and I will be seeing
you around the club.
Past Commodore—Thanks
