7.0 Closing: Ending Prayer -- The Canticle of the Creatures (aka “Sun”) attributed to St. Francis of Assisi (1225)
Most High, all-powerful, good LordYours are the praises, the glory, and the honor, and all blessing, To You alone, Most High, do they belong,
and no human is worthy to mention Your name.
Praised be You, my Lord, with all Your creatures, especially Sir Brother Sun,Who is the day and through whom You give us light.
And he is beautiful and radiant with great splendor;and bears a likeness of You, Most High One.
Praised be You, my Lord, through Sister Moon and the stars,
in heaven You formed them clear and precious and beautiful.
Praised be You, my Lord, through Brother Wind, and through the air, cloudy and serene, and every
kind of weather, through whom You give sustenance to Your
creatures.
Praised be You, my Lord, through Sister Water, who is very useful and humble and precious and chaste.
Praised be You, my Lord, through Brother Fire, through whom You light the night, and he is beautiful and playful and robust and strong.
Praised be You, my Lord, through our Sister Mother Earth, who sustains and governs us, and who produces various fruit with colored flowers and herbs.
Praised be You, my Lord, through those who give pardon for Your love, and bear infirmity and tribulation.Blessed are those who endure in peacefor by You, Most High, shall they be crowned.
Praised be You, my Lord, through our Sister Bodily Death, from whom no one living can escape.Woe to those who die in mortal sin.
Blessed are those whom death will find in your most holy will, for the second death shall do them no harm.
Praise and bless my Lord and give Him thanksand serve him with great humility.

we live, move, and have our being)
Spending time cultivating the ability

-- to respond to that discovery in a growing relationship of freedom and commitment.
Background: Spiritual direction is the contemplative practice of helping another person or group to awaken to the mystery called God in all of life, and to respond to that discovery in a growing relationship of freedom and commitment.“ James Keegan

We are connected to the visible and also to those who are not so familiar to us - since we only hear of them on the news/on TV. Theme #3 – Technology ■ 108. The idea of promoting a different cultural paradigm and employing
technology as a mere instrument is nowadays inconceivable. The technological paradigm has become so dominant that it would be difficult to do without its resources and even more difficult to utilize them without being dominated by their internal logic. It has become countercultural to choose a lifestyle whose goals are even partly independent of technology, of its costs and its power to globalize and make us all the same. Technology tends to absorb everything into its ironclad logic, and those who are surrounded with technology “know full well that it moves forward in the final analysis neither for profit nor for the well-being of the human race”, that “in the most radical sense of the term power is its motive – a lordship over all”.[87] As a result, “man seizes hold of the naked elements of both nature and human nature”.[88] Our capacity to make decisions, a more genuine freedom and the space for each one’s alternative creativity are diminished.

(Christian) Ethics
Science is about how the world is, was, or will be.
What led to the extinction of the dodo bird?
How much destruction will there be from a nuclear bomb?
Ethics is about the way the world ought/should be. Ethics is a more ambitious than the science question.
Should we detonate nuclear weapons in a war?

Ethics, Morality, & Law
-Although ethics and morality have different definitions, they actually about the same in practice because they both point to what ought/should be done. Professional philosophers most of the time do not differentiate between the two.
-Ethics/morality and law are different from each other, If they were the same, then all laws would be ethical and all ethical acts would be permitted under the law.
An historic example are the unjust laws is the situation of black slavery before the Civil War. By todays standards, these laws are seen as deeply flawed and immoral.
MLK often talked about the moral responsibility of breaking unjust laws.

3a. Moral
Morality (from the Latin moralis "manner, character, proper behavior") is the differentiation of intentions, decisions and actions between those that are distinguished as proper and those that are improper.[1] Morality can be a body of standards or principles derived from a code of conduct from a particular philosophy, religion or culture, or it can derive from a standard that a person believes should be universal.[2] Morality may also be specifically synonymous with "goodness" or "rightness".

Should endangered species be protected from human hunting?
People sometimes confuse is questions (science) and ought/should questions (ethics).
Well, life is not fair; but it ought to be.

Jesus says, “Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did
not do it to me” (Matthew 25:45). Buddha says, “If you do not tend one another, then
who is there to tend you? Whoever would tend me, he should tend the sick” (Vinaya,
Mahavagga 8.26.3).
Jesus and Buddha diagnose the human dilemma similarly. Our suffering is primarily
based on ignorance. The vast majority of humanity lives in blindness about who we are
and where we are going. Jesus and Buddha both speak about anxiety, attachment,
grasping, craving, and self-absorption.
Unfortunately, Christianity became so concerned with making sure everybody believed
that Jesus was God (faith in Jesus) that we largely ignored his teachings on detachment,
simplicity, nonviolence, and anxiety (the faith of Jesus). Our Buddhist brothers and
sisters can help us remember these teachings at the core of our faith; they can help us be
better, truer Christians. And we can help them, or at least give them very few reasons
to dislike us! Why not try this novel idea?
On many levels, Jesus and Buddha talked about the same experience of transformation.
In the end, all spirituality really is about transformation, dying before we die and being
reborn as our True Selves in Love.RR
