ATTENDANCE POLICY
M-DCPS School Board Policy 5200 Excused School and Class Absences and Tardies
Student illness Medical appointment Death of immediate family Observance of a religious holiday mandated for all members of a faith School-sponsored event Subpoena by law enforcement agency or mandatory court appearance Outdoor suspension
Excessive Absences and Tardies 5 or more consecutive days require written statement from healthcare
provider 5 or more tardies will not qualify student for Citizenship Honor Roll 10 or more absences or tardies result in referral to administration
ARRIVAL / DISMISSAL
School Hours 8:45 am to 3:25 pm Early dismissal at 2:25 pm on Wednesdays Breakfast is free to all students from 8:00 to 8:30 am
Arrival All parents are strongly encouraged to use the car loop Students may not be dropped off before 7:50 am unless enrolled in before
school care Do NOT drop your child off on the street or in the staff parking lots
Dismissal Inform your child’s teacher how your child will go home (walking, bus, parent
pick-up, or after-school program) Display the 8 ½” x 11” card with your child’s name on your dashboard Do not have younger siblings wait for older ones to be dismissed Students must be picked up on time, no later than 30 minutes after dismissal
Students will remain in classrooms during lightning storms until the storm passes.
EARLY PICK-UP
Early Pick-up (only when necessary as they will miss instructional time) Clear the security desk located in front of MLC Photo ID must be presented to sign your child out from the main
office Child will ONLY be released to the parents/guardians or to persons
authorized on the Emergency Contact Card Students will not be released within the final 30 minutes of the
school day (Board Rule 6Gx13-5A-1.04)
Emergency Contact Cards Sent home during first week of school and must be completed and
returned Updated annually Current contact number in case of an emergency involving your
child Include allergies and doctor’s name Identify persons who are authorized to pick your child up from
school
SECURITY/ ENTRANCE TO BUILDING
Parents and volunteers are always welcome but security measures must be taken to maintain your child’s safety
All visitors must clear security desk located in front of MLCShow photo ID, sign in, and obtain a visitor’s pass before proceeding to any office or classroomMake an appointment with a teacher for a conferenceSchool volunteers must also clear security desk and sign in
All doors and gates are closed for added security, except in front of the MLC by the security desk
Cameras are in place throughout the school buildings and are monitored by administration
Please do NOT park in neighbors’ swales or driveways
MEDICATION AT SCHOOL
Medicine must be administered ONLY by office personnel Updated medication forms must be on file in the Main Office Medication must be stored in the Main Office Teachers will not administer medication (even over the counter) Students may not carry medication in book bags or lunch boxes
(including over the counter, such as ibuprofen or decongestants)

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES
Communication between teachers and parents is important Request a conference when you have a concern Schedule an appointment with your child’s teacher Teachers cannot meet with parents during their instructional time
