Greetings from the
2015 MSERA
Program Chair!
I hope each of you is off to
a great semester! The pro-
posal review process is
nearly complete and I am
hoping to notify authors of
the status of their pro-
posals by September 1,
2015. We had over 225
proposal submissions on a
plethora of topics sure to
interest anyone in the field
of education. Thus, our
proposal reviewers have
been quite busy! Thanks to
each of you who contribut-
ed your research, encour-
aged your colleagues and
graduate students to sub-
mit their research and/or
served as a proposal re-
viewer. Please know that
we will have one of the
best MSERA annual meet-
ings ever because of you!
The registration infor-
mation is now available
(http:// msera.org/
annualmeeting. html) so
please be sure to pre-
register. Also, continue to
pass along the annual
meeting information to
your colleagues and grad-
uate students, particularly
if they have never attend-
ed so they can join us in
Lafayette and see what an
awesome organization
MSERA is and enjoy some
delicious Cajun cuisine la-
gniappe! I sincerely hope
to see each of you at the
annual MSERA meeting,
November 4-6, 2015 at the
Doubletree by Hilton Ho-
tel Lafayette. If you have
questions about your pro-
posals or the program,
please contact me, Dr. Re-
becca Robichaux-Davis, at
those of you who have al-
ready been in contact with
me, thank you for your in-
terest and eagerness with
regards to attending and
presenting at the 2015
MSERA Meeting. Thanks
again for your dedication
to our profession. I’m
looking forward to being
able to share the specifics
of the program at some
point during September!
Can’t wait to see you in
Lafayette in November!
Laissez les bon temps rou-
ler!

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Hello. I hope your semester is off to a won-
derful start. We are excited about both the
quantity and quality of submissions for the
upcoming fall conference. You are sure to
have a wonderful experience in Lafayette
November 4 – 6. When you make your ho-
tel reservations, even if you are using hotel
points instead of the great MSERA rate, be
sure to tell them that you are with our or-
ganization to ensure that we get the low
rates on meeting rooms. Plan to attend a
committee meeting leading into the Busi-
ness Meeting and become involved (or stay
involved) with MSERA. The strength of our
organization is the dedication of our mem-
bers.
Two ways in which we recognize extraordi-
nary service and contributions are through
the Harry Bowman Service Award and the
Walter Mathews Historical Contributions
Award. We award these honors to new re-
cipients annually at the Fall Business Meet-
ing. Please email nominations for these
awards to me by October 1 at:
The Harry Bowman Service Award was cre-
ated in 1992 to honor Harry Bowman who
has served and continues to serve MSERA
meritoriously. The intent of this service
award is to recognize someone for ongoing
service to MSERA over a period of years.
This award may be presented to any
MSERA member who has rendered merito-
rious service to the association over a period
of years. The service rendered may be as an
officer and/or as a non-officer member
who has served the organization continu-
ously in significant ways over a period of
years. Recent recipients include: Randy
Parker, Gahan Bailey, Ava Pugh, William
Spencer, and Walt Mathews.
The Walter M. Mathews Historical Contri-
butions Award was created in 1999 to honor
Walter Mathews, the founder of MSERA.
The intent of the award is to recognize
those who have contributed to change with-
in the association to achieve the evolving
vision. Recipients of this award should
have a record of enabling the association to
change in positive ways to benefit the
MSERA membership over a period of years.
Individuals who are nominated for this
award may be longstanding members of
MSERA, former MSERA officers, and/or
MSERA members who served as mentors to
new professional and student members. Re-
cent recipients include: Jane Nell Luster,
James E. McLean, Mary Beth Evans, Judith
A. Boser, Cliff Hofwolt, David Morse, and
Linda Morse.
I look forward to seeing you in November.
