Jagannath Temple, Puri
I am glad to know that the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of India is
celebrating its 50th Annual Convention from 25th to 27th September in Bhubaneswar.
Tourism industry is the largest employment providing sector in the world. Concerted efforts
need to be made to see that India including Odisha emerges as an attractive destination
for international tourists. There is an imperative need to steadily encourage promotion
activities in the tourism and hospitality sector which will provide the necessary boost to our
economic and cultural development.
Odisha has immense tourism potential. Its architectural wonders, lush green forests,
flora and fauna and beautiful sea beach attract tourists from various parts of the world.
Moreover, access to Odisha is improving with international flights starting their operations
from Bhubaneswar. I hope the industry will prepare itself to embrace the opportunity. I am
happy that FHRAI has chosen Bhubaneswar for its 50th convention. It will certainly have the
desired impact on Odisha Tourism.
(Naveen Patnaik)
Naveen PatnaikChief Minister, Odisha
I am pleased to learn that the Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India
(FHRAI) will be holding its 50th Annual Convention from 25th - 27th September, 2015 in
Bhubaneswar.
Over the years, tourism has emerged as a major driver of employment generation and
inclusive economic growth in the country. The Ministry of Tourism is committed to the
holistic development of the Travel, Tourism and Hospitality sector, with the participation of
State Governments/ Union Territories and the Industry.
I appreciate FHRAI’s commitment in seeking to leverage their forthcoming Convention,
as a showcase for Odisha as a rich repository of history, culture and cuisine as well as
promoting the innumerable investment opportunities which the state’s tourism sector
offers. I am confident that you will forever cherish this opportunity to personally experience
Bhubaneswar’s unparalleled beauty, rich diversity and our legendary tradition of warm

It gives me immense pleasure that the Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of
India (FHRAI), New Delhi is going to celebrate its 50th Annual Convention and a Brochure is
being brought out on the occasion.
Hotel and Restaurant Associations through out the country are doing tremendous job,
with united effort and sincere interest to serve the domestic as well as foreign tourists. The
member organisations extend necessary and comfortable services to the people. Hospitality
is a much sought after concept that connotes multidimensional branches such as tourist
safety, accommodation, packaging, publicity ect.
‘Tourists are guests and to provide hospitality is our duty’ – should be the mantra of Hotel
& Restaurant Associations of India. The convention, I hope, will provide ample scope to
deliberate on various aspects of our tourism potential and hospitality resources.
I extend my best wishes for the grand success of the Convention along with the publication
of the Brochure.

Welcome messageThe hospitality industry is the third largest foreign exchange earner, accounting for 6.23% of India’s GDP and 8.78% of India’s total employment. The travel and tourism sector currently employs 49 million people, or one in every 10 jobs, and this is projected to increase to 58 million, or one in every 9.6 jobs by 2020. The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) says India’s travel and tourism sector is expected to be the second largest employer in the world, employing 40, 37,000 people directly or indirectly, by 2019.
Hearty welcome to all the delegates! 50 years of journey has brought us to the existing stature and given us this platform for jubilation and stepping forward for global excellence. This convention, not only symbolizes the aspirations and vision of the hospitality industry, but also provides a great learning platform for the delegates to discuss emerging trends, opportunities and related technologies in the industry. Various initiatives of the Government such as introduction of E –Visa for ease in travel, Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, and developing smart cities with superior infrastructure, will significantly contribute to the growth of the industry in the years to come. We need to respond to such developments with matching facilities to keep up with the changes and to capitalize on such upcoming opportunities.
Odisha has tremendous potential of becoming a major tourist hub and this event will be instrumental
in achieving the same. We are thankful to Odisha Tourism for agreeing to partner with us and expect them to come up with a policy framework for creating better infrastructure to help in growth of tourism sector. The serene beaches , along with Chil
i ka , the largest brackish water lake in Asia, the lush green forest of Shim il ipal Tiger Reserve, the famous Bhitarkanika National Park with mangrove forest and home to salt water crocodiles; and Konark, the Sun temple, are the major attraction of the state for domestic as well as international tourists.
We will have plenty of sessions looking at the big picture, both social and economic- but there will also be a real focus on practical advice that will help to transform the Indian hospitality industry and to accelerate the growth curve and start making a difference with straight away. A Heritage Walk and carnival has been planned to celebrate The World Tourism Day, which will showcase the folk dance and culture of various parts of the country.
We will be looking at industry excellence, guest experience and human resource development, and welcoming our upcoming members, associates and those new to both our industry and our conference.
With the blessings of Lord Jagannath, this convention will be a memorable occasion for all the stakeholders.

The Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India, better known by its acronym: FHRAI, is the apex body of the four regional hotel and restaurant associations: Eastern (HRAEI), Western (HRAWI), Northern (HRANI), and Southern (SIHRA). Founded in 1955 by the legendary hotelier Rai Bahadur M.S. Oberoi with just 13 members, FHRAI today enjoys a pan-India presence with membership strength of 3933 members.
FHRAI is the unified national voice of hospitality industry and enjoys the distinction of being the largest hotel & restaurant industry association of our Nation and the third largest in the World.
FHRAI is the strongest interface between the hospitality industry and the political leadership, academics, international associations and other related stakeholders.
FHRAI helps Indian hospitality industry grow, prosper and keep pace with the global hospitality industry.
FHRAI conventions are annual events organised by FHRAI with one of the regional associations playing a pivotal role each year.
This year, the ‘Hotel & Restaurant Association of Eastern India’ (HRAEI) is privileged to organise the convention, more importantly, because this is the 50th Convention of FHRAI.
FHRAI Golden Jubilee Convention is being eagerly awaited and will be widely attended by the Indian hospitality industry.
Our convention will serve as a unique platform for our delegates to interact and deliberate with key stakeholders including dignitaries from the highest echelons of the government, eminent global experts, business icons, media, etc.
The purpose of the event is to identify problems and issues plaguing the hospitality industry and suggest practical solutions. For this, high voltage technical sessions have been designed with eminent speakers.
Evenings will unwind delegates with entertaining performances and top of the line food and beverages.
Please see subsequent pages giving details of 3-days’ action packed program.

Odisha has its unique tradition of painting, architecture, sculpture, music and dance. The local language Odia and the dance form of Odissi are given the designation of classical language & classical dance by the Govt. of India.
The rich cultural heritage of Odisha guides the social and religious activities of people and same is reflected in their way of life and thought processes.
Odisha is also rich in myriad art forms like appliqué, silver filigree, patachitra & metal crafts. Applique in Orissa is an old temple art, which has been refined to perfection. A fine example of the craft is the enormous appliqué canopies above the reigning deity of Puri, Lord Jagannath. The Pattachitra painting on tasar silk are also distinct and classical acknowledged by GOI.
