History of regulationThis section covers why public protection is needed- individuals recognize and learn to appreciate how regulation came into being. It is hard to know where you are going if you do not know where you came from. Also addressed throughout this training is new trends in regulation.
Roles and responsibilities of a Board memberThis session covers the role of a board member and how that differs from staff, and codes of conduct for board members who speak on behalf of the board. Also the importance of separating responsibility of public protection from protection of the profession and how to deal with the difficult/unprepared board member are explained.
Competency AssessmentAs a board member, it is important to know what a board member needs to consider when determining eligibility for licensure. This portion of the training will be based on the important components of decision making as it relates to eligibility and licensure.
Disciplinary ProcessIdentifies the roles and responsibilities of board members and staff during the discipline process; what a board member needs to look at and consider during the discipline process, and options for resolution.
NASCLA will be conducting its first Board Member Training Program in conjunction with the NASCLA 2019 Annual Conference scheduled from 12:30 PM - 4:30 PM on August 26, 2019 in Baltimore, Maryland. This training is a great opportunity for your state regulatory board members to receive valuable information from a top expert on board training matters. About the Speaker
Ms. Mooney-Haywood was educated and trained as a nurse, the majority of her professional career has been in the field of professional regulation. For a portion of her career she served on the Board of Nursing in North Carolina and Ms. Mooney-Haywood has spent 28 ½ years championing the cause of public protection. She truly believes that through professional regulation, the public is better protected, and professional standards are maintained. Ms. Mooney-Haywood is the only individual that has served two (2) terms as President of CLEAR (The Council of Licensure, Enforcement and Regulation). Although, retired from the Board of Nursing, she continues to instruct several of the educational offerings: the Board Member Training Program; Executive Leadership Program; and she serves as an instructor in The National Certified Investigator Training Program (NCIT).
