The Governing Board
Committees & Panels
Papers, agendas & minutes
Some governors would prefer to focus on
famliar territory and easier issues – school meals, uniform, the
plumbing in loos. These are not your main
priorities
So rather than lunches and loos your main focus should
be on the quality of teaching in the school, the leadership of teaching and learning, the progress and
outcomes for pupils and the performance management
of staff including the headteacher
The board should avoid its time being consumed with
issues of secondary importance and focus on
three core functions
Core Functions: Strategic leadership
*****Accountability
*****Financial performance
The Governing Body are very supportive. I wouldn’t change them
but I’m not sure that they are instrumental in raising standards –
that’s my job and the job of my staff. Governors help with setting vision and
ethos: clerk is excellent. They have been very helpful in gettng out all
the dreaded policies.
