Block Schedule
• All Frederick County public high schools use the four-period, semesterized block schedule.
• Block 1 80 minutes• Block 2 Student Enrichment Time (SET)
35 minutes• Block 3 80 minutes• Block 4 80 minutes• Block 5 80 minutes
Student Enrichment Time(SET)
SET is a separate, specified block of time embedded into the school
day designed to:
Provide students with support to meet the demands of increased
academic rigorAnd
Enrich their complete learning experience
SET Options
Tutoring with a specific teacher
Taking a make-up test
PSAT/SAT or AP Test Preparation
Guidance office appointments
Club meetings
Group projects
Self directed learning
Promotion Policy
The Frederick County promotion policy establishes a minimum number of credits for promotion:
• Promotion to Grade 9 – Promotion from 8th grade
• Promotion to Grade 10 – 6 credits earned• Promotion to Grade 11 – 12 credits earned• Promotion to Grade 12 – 18 credits earned
• Graduation – A minimum of 25 credits earned in required areas

> Leadership Academy– A two year program of study emphasizing technology,
communication, world perspectives, problem solving and ethical decision making.
– Application is made in the sophomore year.
> Pre-Engineering Academy– Students study a combination of science, math, and
technology courses over a three year period.
