October Sermon Series
Dr. Bell’s benediction each week says, “We are blessed. We are so blessed to be a blessing.” There is so much truth behind this
simple statement. We truly are blessed. Although we each are blessed in different ways, we can all find wealth in some areas of
our lives. This is a wonderful thing, but it can also be dangerous. That’s what we are going to be talking about in our sermon
series through the month of October. We call this series, “Defying Gravity.” Through the coming weeks, we are going to talk
about the two different gravitational pulls we constantly have weighing on our lives. There’s the pull that we will call our self-
pull; and there is the pull that we will call God’s pull. Over the next four weeks we want to talk about defying that gravitational
self-pull that makes us consistently try to please ourselves. If we can defy that gravitational pull, and lean into the pull of God,
we will learn how to be a blessing. We will start by Discovering Gravity (Proverbs 3:13-14), which will lead into Breaking Free
(1 Timothy 6:18). We want to look at what it means to be Tethered to God (Proverbs 3:9), and what it looks like When We Get
It Right (Matthew 6:19-21). Join us throughout the month of October as we learn together what it means to be a blessing.

We had a wonderful planting day on Saturday in the church garden. What we lacked in numbers we made up for in quality. In just two hours we weeded eight beds, manually
added soil and hoed the heck out of them, and then planted broccoli, cabbage, spinach, carrots, and mustard greens. Then we had a wonderful lunch in the picnic
area. Thanks to our gardeners, Don Vanderford, Jack Lester, Sylvia Green, and Neal Green, Sr. A big thanks to Matt Jackson for supplying and delivering a load of topsoil.
And thanks to Sherry Andrus for surprising us with her wonderful cupcakes.

Back to Fall Activities was a lot of fun. We had two waterslides and a slip-n-slide.
Club UMC has gotten off to a great start. We have 34 students signed up this year. They are so excited when they get off the church bus. We are studying the old testament story of Abraham and Sarah. The children get to dress up and act out the Bible Story, make a craft and play games in the gym after they have a snack.
Preschool has started back with a lot of excitement. This year we have 63 students enrolled in our program. Every class is full and a few classes have a waiting list. We have some excellent teachers. Preschool Director is Donna Jackson. One year old teachers are Jennifer Snyder and Jane Easterling. Two year old teachers are Andrea Smith, Lori Machacek and Carol Jones.
