“Our analysis of the available evidence on the demand for GP services points to a workforce under considerable strain and with insufficient

capacity to meet expected patient needs. There is a clear need to substantially lift workforce

numbers to more sustainable levels. However, we also note with concern the lack of

recent substantive evidence on GP activity and workload, a major gap in the evidence base which must be urgently addressed.”
