Bike Education began this week for Years 4-10 with their final “road assessment” commencing at the end of the term. We look forward to seeing
their skills developing over the next 5 weeks.
Principal’s Report
Bike Ed
It was certainly pleasing to see the way the students responded to their first Bike Ed lessons for the year. The Year 4-6 students were involved first followed by the secondary students. We have the clus-ter’s Bike Ed trailer here which provides bikes for those who don’t have or can’t bring their own bikes to school. The Year 4-6 students commenced with a theory and orientation session then it was all go as they selected a bike and then learnt some of the essential skills needed for bike riding and safety. Safe-ty whilst riding is a key theme as well as awareness of others and road rules. Maintenance of the bike is also emphasised as well as tyre pressure, bike size and good brakes. I am looking forward to seeing the bike riding skills develop over the next few weeks.
Dolly
The SRC ran a highly successful Do It For Dolly Day on Tuesday. The students were asked to wear blue to honour the legacy of Dolly who was unfortunately a victim of intense and relentless bullying. The SRC leaders organised a home-group activity then Years 7-12 students viewed a video explaining bullying and showing a possible conse-quence of unacceptable behaviour towards others. The video was confronting with a strong message. I urge you to ask your child about the video and have a discussion around bullying and the consequences.
Our Do It For Dolly Day coincided with a visit by three Headspace representatives. They joined in with the students, spoke about the services available for students who may be distressed and provided valu-able advice. Congratulations to the SRC on your work in planning and presenting the day for us. Funds raised go to the Do It For Dolly Day organisation which works towards preventing bullying.
If you have concerns that your child may be being bullied or shows signs of being a bully, please ring Nicki at school and she will be able to advise you on steps that can be taken to assist.
Morning Tea
Our Year 9 ADVANCE team excelled last Thursday when they planned and delivered The Biggest Morn-ing Tea here at Hopetoun P-12 College. This was a major project for the students. They worked cooper-atively as a team from concept to conclusion, learning a range of skills along the way. The project not only enabled the ADVANCE team to raise funds for the Cancer Council, they used teamwork, communi-cation, planning and organisational skills to deliver morning tea to over 50 people. Well done to our Year 9 students.
Moves with Healthy Foods.
Our Prep to Year 3 class will be involved in this visiting marionette show tomorrow morning. Moves With Healthy Foods focuses on healthy eating, exercise and energy. Our P-3 class will be joined by the kinder and St Joseph’s students.
Coming Up
The Year 9 students will be heading off to sailing camp in Geelong next week. It may be a little breezy,
however, they have plenty of back-up activities if the weather turns a little nasty. Mr Williamson and
Ms Dixon will be accompanying the students. We also have some of the Year 7-8 students participating
in winter sport in Horsham on Thursday as well as exams for the Year 9 and 10 students on Thursday
and Friday. Also, an information evening about the China trip will be held for parents in Birchip on
Wednesday evening.

Highly Successful Morning Tea
run by Year Nine Advance
Last week, the Year Nine Advance class ran the Biggest Morning Tea to fundraise for the Cancer Council. It was an extremely successful event where we served a total of 55 people and made over 200 items. We hope everyone enjoyed the food.
Thank you to everyone who participated in The Biggest Morning Tea. Your donations were much appreciated, helping to raise $341 for the Cancer Council. Special thanks to Moya and Helen who donated their time to help us reach our goal.
The ADVANCE team
Last Wednesday the Year 4-6 students attended a golf clinic. They all showed enthusiasm and patience as there was a lot to learn. From holding their hands correctly on the club, standing with feet apart and then remembering to swing the golf club and make contact with the ball.
Over the past two weeks the students have been learning about descriptive words to make their writing more interesting. When students were asked how descriptive words had changed their writing Jazmyn stated ‘My writing has grown’, Tristan said ‘I’ve got over a hundred words in my writing’, Alynah replied ‘It gives the reader more information’, Heidi answered ‘ It makes your writing more powerful and more interesting to read, also it puts a picture in your head’.
