Sew the units into rectangular shapes. Make 4. Press.

Sew the first rectangular shape to the pieced square. Stop several squares from the end of the pieced square unit (indicated by red circle in diagram). Working counter clockwise, sew the next rectangular shape to the quilt top. Press after each addition. Go back to the initial seam (stopped at the red circle). Complete that seam and press. Quilt should measure 45-1/2" square at this point.

10.

Sew the borders to the quilt using the followingtechnique. The outer border is shown in the example. Step 1. Place a strip of the border print across the middleof the quilt, centering a motif from the border at the exactcenter of the piece as shown in Diagram 1.

Step 2. Use a right angle triangle to mark the miter alongone of the edges, making sure to leave enough for seamallowance as shown in Diagram 2. Carefully pick upthe mitered edge of the border strip and bring it over tothe other end of the border strip at the opposite edge ofthe quilt, making sure that the design matches. Cut thesecond miter. Using this first mitered piece as a guide, cutthree more identical pieces, making sure that the designon the border print is exactly the same on all four pieces.

Step 3. Sew the borders to the edges of the quilt. Beginby pinning the mid-point of one of the border pieces tothe middle of one of the edges of the quilt. Pin the cornersnext then ease in any fullness, pinning carefully all alongthe edge (the edge of the quilt is usually a little widerthan the center, because of bias edges or seams.) Sew themiters last Diagram 3.

FINISHINGLayer the backing, wrong side up, batting and pieced top (right side up) together. Baste the layers. Quilt as desired. Trim the backing and batting flush with the outer raw edges of the pieced top. Bind edges
