SynopsisIn a faraway kingdom, the green ogre Shrek
finds his swamp invaded by banished fairytale misfits, runaways who've been cast off by Lord Farquaad, a tiny terror with big ambitions. When Shrek sets off with a wise-cracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he's handed a task - if he rescues feisty Princess Fiona from the Dragon-guarded tower, his swamp will be returned to him. But, a fairy tale wouldn't be complete without unexpected twists and turns along the way.
Casting InfoCast size: 40 students maximum.Approximately 20 speaking parts
with several ensemble parts available.
The ensemble consists of GUARDS, DULOC PERFORMERS, PUSS IN BOOTS, ROOSTER, PIED PIPER, RATS, BISHOP, BIRDS, TREES, DEER, WOODLAND CREATURES & FAIRYTALE CREATURES.
Casting Info (cont.) Big Bad Wolf: A pretty wolf who is reduced to wearing LRRH’s
grandmother‘s PJ’s. Captain of the Guard: Not scared to put all the Fairy Tale Creatures in
their place. Donkey: A brash, loud, fast-talking animal with no concept of "quiet
time." Dragon: Charged with guarding Princess Fiona, but tired of being her
babysitter. Dwarf: Farquaad's comparably short and grumpy father. Fiona: Not your stereotypical princess. Manners like a teenage boy. Gingy: A gingerbread man initially kidnapped by Lord Farquaad. Knights: Dragon's background singers. All tried to save Fiona but were
captured. Little Ogre: He may not have lines but he is very important to the
storytelling. Lord Farquaad: A very short man with gargantuan ambition! Power
hungry! Mama and Papa Ogre: A dynamic duo that kick off the show with high
energy. Peter Pan: The boy who never grew up, and continues to act the part in
this story. Pinocchio: The wooden boy who cannot tell a lie without his nose
growing. Shrek: He may be a big, scary, green ogre to the rest of the world, but
he’s really just a big fellow with a big heart. Storytellers: They are important for setting up the world/moving the
story forward Ugly Duckling: Bitter about his appearance but finds friends among his
fellow outcasts. Wicked Witch: A witch with a big yet wicked personality.
Applications
Applications are due Thursday, November 13th, 2014 to Ms. Cordeiro/Mr. Jalbert.
NO LATE APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED!
Must have and maintain at least a C- (70%) average in all classes (including related arts) in order to participate.
Students must not have received an In-School or Out-Of-School suspension this year. Code of conduct will be adhered to at all times.
Audition MaterialsThe girls audition song is “Forever.” Girls
will sing Dragon’s part. The boys audition song is “Big Bright Beautiful World.” Boys will sing Shrek’s part. If students would like an audio copy of the music to practice with, they must bring in a blank CD-R or CD-RW by Nov. 7th and Mr. Jalbert will make a copy for them.
CD’s must have the child’s name and homeroom teacher’s name written on it. CD’s must be turned in at the audition. CD’s will be destroyed after auditions, so you will not get them back.
All students will receive a paper copy of speaking lines that will be used during the audition.
AuditionsNovember 13th- There will be an
audition rehearsal from 3:30-4:30. This is not a mandatory meeting, but attendance is STRONGLY recommended. Students will learn the audition song and the speaking lines that will be used during the audition. Please be on time to pick up your child at 4:30.
November 18th- all students auditioning will report to the “cafegymatorium” after school.
Auditions will be from 3:30-??? Once students audition, they may call to be picked up.
CLOSED AUDITIONS: Auditions are closed to all parents and also to students that are not auditioning at that time or at all. Parents are welcome to wait in the lobby, but will not be allowed in the cafeteria.
Audition Format Students will check in at the stage at
3:30. They will be given an audition number and their application. Then they will be sent to the “holding tank” where they will wait for their turn to audition. While in the holding tank, they are encouraged to practice their songs/lines. They can practice alone or with partners/small groups. They can also work on homework at this time.
Students will be called back to the stage in groups of 10.
Students will sing the audition song solo and then read their lines either alone or with a partner/judge(s).
Important Dates Cast list posted on November 21st in the
main lobby. 1st Cast Meeting will be December 1st from
3:30-5:00 in the music room. All Cast members must attend!
Rehearsals will begin December 1st. Rehearsals will be held Mondays from
3:30-5:00 and Tuesdays & Thursdays from 3:30-5:30. Not all cast members will be at every rehearsal to start. Please pay attention to your child’s highlighted calendar.
Your child will receive a calendar at the meeting on December 1st with his/her specific schedule.
During the month of April, all cast members must attend each rehearsal scheduled. Please know that we may add rehearsals to the calendar at any time, if/when we feel they are necessary.
Student/Parent Contract Must inform us in person or by
phone/email if a rehearsal will be [email protected]
3 unexcused absences from rehearsals will result in removal from the show.
Can be removed from show due to missed rehearsals, late pick-ups, and/or misbehavior.
Discipline records will be reviewed prior to casting any student in the show.
Parent Committees
The directors will set up parent committees to assist with the many “behind the scenes” aspects of putting on a production of this caliber. Parents of cast members are expected to join at least one committee. Committees will be organized and set up after the winter break.
Show Dates During tech week and dress rehearsals
from May 11th-May 15th all Cast must attend all rehearsals for the whole rehearsal time! NO EXCUSES!!!

is a dress rehearsal and is only for BME students and staff. No public admittance, due to limited space.
