This is an ideal choice for our rain garden because it’s salt tolerant, strong enough to be near roads, it can survive in infertile soil, and in the winter, and it changes pretty colors, so it is nice looking. Also, it’s a Vermont native, so it won’t be an invasive species. It likes shade, but not actually, so it’s placement near the woods, but actually in the sun, would be fabulous.

This is a splendid choice for our rain garden because it is beautiful! So people will like to look at and it’s perennial and will come back yearly with little maintenance. In addition, it does not mind salt, enjoys sandy soil (alliteration!), and will attract hummingbirds. Butterflies and moths! It’s Vermont native, so it won’t kill other plants, and it enjoys partial shade.
